Intercontinental Bank CEO bags award

The vice chairman/chief executive of Intercontinental Bank Plc, Erastus Akingbola has won this year’s PEARL Outstanding chief executive Award. The award was presented to the Akingbola last Sunday for what the Board of Governors of the Peal Awards Project adjudged as his exemplary performance as the vice chairman and chief executive of Nigeria’s third largest bank. Besides, the bank’s outstanding operational and stock market performance for last year was also commended.

 

According to the president/chief executive of the organization, Tayo Orekoya, Akigbola has contributed immensely to the growth and development of Nigeria’s capital market through the bank which has continued to remain delight of discerning investors. He particularly commended the bank’s seamless and promptly concluded consolidation which has become a model in the industry today and the pioneering role of the bank in customer service satisfaction and making customers to be happy at every point of contact with the bank.
Akingbola thanked the chairman and board of directors of the company for the award and promised that he would not rest on its oars, promising that they would continue to justify the confidence reposed in him. He dedicated the award to all the 7000 staff of the bank, who according to him are dedicated and committed to the values of the bank.
Akingbola who is the first vice-president of Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, started his banking career with Barclays Bank (Union Bank) in 1971and rose to the position of Assistant Accountant in 1977, before leaving for NAL Merchant Bank Limited as executive assistant in the operations department..
He joined first city merchant bank limited in 1987 as controller of operations and was there in this capacity until 1989 when he was appointed the managing director/chief executive of Nigerian Intercontinental Merchant Bank Limited (now Intercontinental Bank Plc.). He is currently chairman, Intercontinental Securities Limited; chairman, Associated Discount House Limited, director, WAPIC Insurance Nigeria Plc; and Chairman, Tropics Finance Limited.
He was conferred with the national honor of Member of the Order of the Niger (MON), by President Olusegun Obasanjo recently in recognition of his monumental contributions to the development of the Nigerian economy.Akingbola who is a member of the elite Ikoyi club is happily married with children
