The New Year is here again. As we all know, they New Year comes with a lot of changes, most of which we hope for to be good. However, the extent to which you and I will enjoy 2007 is hinged on our ability to do the right things, at the right time, the right place, in the right proportion and in the right environment.

As investors, both potential and existing, the extent to which you would reap and enjoy the benefits that abound in the stock market depends largely on the way you coordinate your investment decisions. Are you investing based on what you hear without getting the main facts? Are you investing in a company because they paid dividends last year without checking their fundamentals? Or are you investing simply because you heard the Nigerian capital market is one of the hottest in the world right now? I think you had better pause and examine your investment objectives.

No doubt, it is true that Nigeria’s market is the fastest growing now in terms of return on investment. But stop, you can only enjoy these and many more benefits if and only if you play by the rules of the game. One of the principles that I want you to have at the back of your mind throughout this year is that your ability to sow/ invest in the right atmosphere/ company will determine the quantum of returns you get.

If you ask me, the year 2007 is going to be a great year. I see this year having a very bullish run for the most part of it. The banking industry has proved that the consolidation exercise was indeed a good thing and a positive step in the right direction. profitability of most banks have increased, foreign direct investment is on the increase, loans are now accessible to investors, competition is very high, thereby causing an increase in the standard of products and so on.

The story goes on and on but the fact is this-it’s a brand new day. Do not make the errors of last year repeat themselves. An intelligent investor is one that does better as time goes by, based on acquired knowledge of past experiences.

I want to invite you to stay with us throughout this year as we promise to keep you updated on all that’s happening in Nigeria and even abroad-as long as it’s for your good.

Happy New Year
