Post Sterling Bank (action plan announcement)

Sterling Bank gets N127bn from AFREXIM (http://www.businessdayonline.com/?c=54&a=14683)

Sterling is not one of the biggest banks in Nigeria, however if all the reports of credit facilities, international collaborations are anything to go by, this stock might have a lot of potential in the next few months.

Afterall as a shareholder, i would prefer the company borrow rather than issue out public offers as is often the case. public offers dilute existing shares. Loans on the other hand, if well managed reduce corporation tax since they are considered as an expense.

The bank's price has definitely soared this year currently at around 8 but considering it pipped 10.10 about a month ago, i wouldnt be at all surprised if it trades at the 20 range in the next 12 months.

What do you guys think?

i believe that the bank is a sleeping giant, because its peers-skye bank, wema bank, and some others have gone ahead. their financial year ended in june and the results will be out soon. the 3rd quarter was impressive. I have told my broker to get some units for me, so that when the results come out and the rush begins, i will be relaxing.

Yeah, my broker (FSDH) was just telling me about this stock yesterday, how that it's a solid buy, etc etc. Anyway I got some units a while back, so if it soars I definitely would be riding the wave

Windy Wendy, I see that you use FSDH. Who is your stock broker, can I have the person's number. I use FSDH too but I am not getting the feedback from my account officer as I want. If you make a request for a sale of a stock with FSDH, how fast does it take and how is this communicated to you?

www.ngrguardiannews.com - Guardian Newspapers

The MD of the bank stated that all the five banks that formed Sterling were guilty of false disclosure. I wonder what the CBN/SEC will do about this; most probably nothing.

thats not a good news, but i have a feeling there are too many falsehood in the banking industry, i wonder why, even profit declaration for the big boys are false sometimes,if not always.
well, if sterling meet the cut offpoint, cbn might not do anything.

Default Real estate Investment a better capital appreciation as opposed to IPO

Well, I am of the opinion that the bank Ipo will provide room for capital appreciation.

However, talking about capital appreciation, I am of the opinion that real estate investment in Nigeria will give better returns and better Capital Appreciation than the Capital Market.

Does any have comments to this.

For now Oceanic stands head and shoulders above sterling bank, except if your intention is to play short term, then it wouldn't matter which one you buy, prospects of a rise will be you primary consideration then.

Nnana,

You need to look beyond the price of the stock. Sterling trading @ N8 is not necessarily a better stock than Oceanic trading @ N30 or Zenith @ N44. Both Zenith and Oceanic could be better stocks based on fundamentals (P/E, Divyield, Cashflow yield, long tem growth prospects e.t.c)

it is certain that sterlin bank is coming to the market to raise fund, so if u are looking at 4month, dont put your money their, i also observe that they are not ready to do artificial appreciation as the price has not gone past N8.2 for some time now.

Oceanic to reach it peak at N30, atleast for now, except of course when their result will be release and bonus plus div is declared, may be that, the price can go up, otherwise, dont go for oceanic too.

I will suggest you take risk intothe insurance firm, some of them are really very low now, then you can set a target and do fsat trading, but is with a risk shaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Wait O!!! I thought Oceanic's bank financial year end is September. So how can sum1 know there PBT when the financial year has not even ended.
Unless this is just someone's projection but it can't be for real for now. If this info was coming in around October, then i would have started smiling to the bank
I know that Oceanic will definitely do well anyday and probably in line with what you have indicated, but i think this info is still a projection for now
