This is a good result (provided there are no later write-offs) from ETI.. Seems early acknowledgement of impaired assets are paying off.

I could give you the Naira equivalent and you arrange for me to cash it into my account...

I think they already made provisions earlier on, in their Dec. 2008 year end results, for the exposures of Ecobank Nigeria to the Stock Market.
Whether they need to make more provisions is the one I don't know.

I think it is just a bookeeping exercise, a reverse share consolidation that some Nigerian banks have embarked upon. In the main, it is like a reverse form of Naira re-basement that CBN planned to embark upon some months ago which the Finance Minister described as cosmetic surgery that does not affect fundamentals of the economy.

From my experience ETI pays dollars as dividend and if you want it to goes into your bank account the cost the bank will charge you will be more than the expected value because it is from one bank to another, I was advice by my banker to take the dividend to any Ecobank office and they will convert it to Naira equivalent for me. But If you are using ecobank as your banker then you will have no problem.

Meanwhile the recently paid dividend by ETI includes those that bought in their last PO.

What I know is that if you are having a domiciliary account with ecobank and you included such account when you are filling the ETI form then they may post directly into your account. But any bank account differs from this will attract charges bcs the dividend is paid in dollars.

Therefore what they did is to send a dividend warrant to all the shareholders. If you have not received yours be patient and be checking your address regularly.

I think the next line of action is to open an account with Ecobank i.e to

byepass the charges to be incurred by other banks.
