Some calculation. It closed at 230 but today the price would close at 48.3
48.3*6= 290. I bet you it will go all the way to 55.
That would have been an easy 40% in these hard times.
Could you look at your calculation again? If it goes from N48.3 to N55, the appreciation is ~ 13%, not 40%.

i wonder what happened to ETI.. does a 5 for 1 stock split mean you will now have 5 shares in total or 6 shares in total.

the price was 230 and was marked down to 38.33 initially.. then was increased to 46. 38.33 naira is 230/6 while 46 naira is 230/5.

does this then mean that previous holders of 1 shares now have 5 shares so they used 46 naira... or do they have 6 shares and the price is 46 naira.. cos if thats the case thats extra 20% from mark down errors..

av looked at stock split on investopedia... and my understanding is that a holder of 1 share will now have a total of 5 shares.. that means the adjusted price of 46 naira is correct...

The 5 for 1 was not a bonus but a stock split.so 230 naira became 46 naira after the split. The 46 naira then grew to 48.3 naira...the growth is 5% and not 40%.

If u prefer to do d calculation in another way,we will have 5*48.3=241.5....a growth of 241.5-230/230=5%.

The 6 u used in ur calculation would have been appropriate in d case of a bonus.

IF it moves from 46 to 55 naira..its still not up to 40% growth...its 20%.

I joined the train before the split and l can confirm to you that if you had 1 unit before, it becomes 6units and if you had 10units before, it becomes 60units. The rally has just started.

For your information, it returned to less than N40 on the day of the split
(02/06/08) and gained over N7 that same day.

Well, i have checked and it appears dat if u have 1 unit b4 d split, u will have 5 at the end of the split and not 6.

you said d price was lower dan 40 after the split but i have checked from 2 sites(cashcraft and fsdh) and what they both have after the split was 46 naira.

you may find dis link of some use...Index

if it was a 5 for 1 bonus...then 6 would hv been used to divide the 230 naira and not 5.

Thanks mate.

All you need do is check the trading details of 02/06/08 and you will observe a price movement of over N7 that day.

230/6 bring you to about 38.33 and it gained over N7 same day to close at about N46.

If you have a portfolio on Nigerian Securities website, it will automatically tell u the additional units that should go into your portfolio. Just check the bonus tracker icon (though l know it is a stock split).

I rest my case and will not want to comment any further. Your CSCS statement will confirm the actual units after the split when it is effected if still in doubt.

Don't want to drag this issue, but there is no way a stock priced @ N38.33 will gain N7 in one day. There's a max 5% daily appreciation on the NSE, so the max gain for the stock is ~ N1.93 if the adjusted price is N38.33

Thanks 4 d information.

How is it possible that a stock with N46 as d opening price gained N7.67K BUT still closed at the same N46?IF it truly gained N7.67k, then d closing price should be 46 + 7.67=N53.67.

I will appreciate it if u could explain how d maths was done...

The stock fell today by 4.45% which means that there is high probability that this fall may continue tomorrow. I guess I have to wait till it gets within the 45 naira area before taking action.

I have an online cscs access to my account and I bought ETI before the split. However I still see the original number of ETI in my account whenever I view my portifolio online. Pls how do I use the "bonus tracker" to check for my expected split? I check throughout the display but could not see the "bonus Tracker icon". Is it at the cscsnigerialtd website or some other site? Thanks in anticipation of the help.

I recall someone (may be Apache) saying that it takes several months before these bonuses/splits reflect...

Zainab mentioned the "bonus tracker" being part of the NSE premium members service on the Redstar thread. It's not part of what one gets with the normal cscs online access for checking stocks.
