ETI will be a long term play. I expect 2014 to be the break out year for them. For me it is good for 'diversification'. It provides exposure indirectly to other African markets.

well that is actually the tricky aspect of stock with increased share capital especially for someone without complete information on the stock, if the the number of the new issues (Oceanic etc) have not being factored, it means the < 0.6 is the best eti could do for as a stand alone making any new growth in profit to be equally swallowed by a growth in no of shares (though it may not be proportional) which means it is actually not cheap if you consider the average PE. anyway is good to know that the new shares have not been factored

I think the new shares from Oceanic acquisition is already included. What is not included are the other capital raising exercise like the South Africa pension fund, IFC etc.

When you consider where they are in their expansion plan, the contribution from Nigeria and their other plans, I tend to have confidence in them going forward.

Also important is the diversification into other economies that you get.

Fundamentally, I like what I see. Wanted to buy at 10.50 but it did not get there. The shareholding structure also makes them less susceptible to the Ololo effect.

HELP WITH MISSING OCEANIC SHARES: Is there anyone out there in the same dilemma I am in with ETI Registrars? My Oceanic bank shares had disappeared from my CSCS account since the past 6 months. I went to the ETI Rgistrars about 2 months ago to complain as I expected that the ETI equivalence would automatically be credited to my account. The lady there told me that the system was down and that I should leave my phone number and she would contact me whenever the system was up. Since then I never got any call nor was my CSCS account credited. Today I went there again. I did not tell her I had been there before and laid the same complaint as I did 2 months ago. Guess what she told me? The same story as she did two months ago!!! "The system was down, please leave your phone number, I will get back to you whenever the system was up" I was really furious and told her a piece of my mind. I then showed her where she wrote her name and phone number the last time I was there. It is really a shame that ETI would treat her new shareholders this way. Why don't they just tell the truth as regards what their problem is rather than telling lies. Or am I the only one in this situation? (PS: I was armed with a copy of my old CSCS statement which showed my holding of Oceanic shares).

I had very few units of Oceanic and I can confirm to you that it was converted to ETI shares at ratio 1:20 on CSCS.
Since you have a copy of your old CSCS statement which reflects the number of units in Oceanic, I'll advise you visit them again and demand that the issue be resolved before you leave! Let them know how serious you are.

I have seen my ETI equivalent ordinary shares of Oceanic in my CSCS account but have not seen nor heard anything about the preferential shares. Please, what do I do? Are others in the same boat with me? The registrar (ESL I believe) seems to be unreachable somehow.

Sir Pal, we are in the same boat.Tried to reach the registrar several times last year to no avail. Saw the converted ETI units on my CSCS as well. Did you receive any dividend for the legacy Oceanic shares converted to ETI for FY2011?
Already laid it to rest though because I actually wrote off the small units I had left in Oceanic from my portfolio before it was acquired.

Bros did you include the shares they issued out to IFC and PIC the south african pension trust who bought into it? i have 12,837,152,208 from their 2011 annual report and another 1,065,889,596 preference shares which entitled to dividends. That should give a total of 13.9 Billion shares less the shares given to IFC and PIC .
