Banks seek safety in Treasury Bills instead of lending

For how long will this madness continue???

SLS needs to find another way of reducing liquidity in the economy cos for as long as the TBill yield are interesting, the banks will continue to rather invest there rather than giving money to the real sector..

Why are you complaining? I thought you were one of the people that believed Sanusi was faultless? We have to bear with the madness for the next two years, so bear with us, you hear?

I never said he was faultless.. i did say he was doing a good job at least in putting sound risk magt practise amongst the banks....But all am implying is that he needs to tackle the guys in the fiscal policy end...NOI and GEJ

He is doing the best he can do as a CBN governor but he needs the govt to do their own by cutting waste and excessive spendings on recurrent expenditure. at least that way his efforts at using the OMO and Treasuty Bills auction at this high rates will be uncalled for..

The senate just passed for second reading a bill to amend the CBN act, the section under review is the budget approval.

This is something I advocated for right from the very first donation and in my opinion is another small step in the right direction.

There are some banks that should not even think of accessing that window. Any bank that has NPL of more than 5% with loan to deposit ratio of less than 70% should not be allowed by the CBN and SEC to issue a Eurobond.
