Merged Banks and Shareholders

I bought some shares in the defunct Cooperative Development Bank (CDB) a few years ago. The share certificate never got to my address eventhough the bank insisted they had sent it. But CDB used to pay dividends to me through my lawyer as I am presently out of the country. However, during the consolidation, CDB was merged with other banks and metamorhposed into what is now known as FCMB. I have not heard anything about what happened to the shareholders of CDB. The dividends have also stopped coming. My lawyer wrote to the Registrars of FCMB without any response. I have also made telephone calls and sent emails to no avail. Is anyone else out there in the same shoes as me? Does anyone know what actually happened and what I should do to resolve this quagmire?

I got the numbers below from the web site of FCMB, the two times I called, including as recently as yesterday at different times, the phones rang without any one one picking. Telephone nos: 234 1 2793030, 2641298

I have also attempted to send emails to their address: registrars@firstcitygroup.com on different ocassions, but the mails were returned as undeliverable.

Try these: 01-2665944-53, 2665864, 2713262; those are the numbers to their Head Office Branch. Ask that you want to contact their registrars. I'm pretty sure one of those lines will be picked; let's hope you don't have to dial too many times. If whoever you speak to say they can't help, ask to speak with the Operations Manager, or ask the number to the Group Head of Customer Relations and/or Customer Service. In case it all goes bad, ask for the name of the officer talking with you. If they should hang up on you; please call back.

Let's hope the worst case scenario doesn't play out. This may be one chance for FCMB to rework the high-and-mighty, higher-and-mightier-than-the-client reputation they've been building. And let us know whatever happens.

Situation report is that I tried all numbers yesterday around 4pm Naija time. Some went through and many did not. For those that went through no one picked the calls. I repeated this morning around 10 am, and a few minutes ago,the same result and that was for all 12 numbers! I wonder why that should happen at the headquarters of a major bank! Disappointing.
