Hello Great People,
I am a new member of this respectable forum. While going through some of the constructive write-up I noticed a few cases where IPO (Initial Public Offer)was used in place of PO (Public Offer). I think that in most cases the initial offers are more attractive than subsequent ones which are simply PO's and need to be applied appropriately. Thanks Cal |

I received a certificate from UBA about 2 weeks ago titled 'bonus 2006'. I know we also paid for rights issue from the last PO early in the year. I am yet to receive any certificate in this respect. Has anyone receved PO certificate?

I thank one of our members for his good observation regarding to the last PO of UBA, some people have gotten their certificates while majority are yet to receive both their 2006 share dividend and certificate. I believe partiality should not be exhibited in cases of dividend and share certificates

Has anyone in the house seen the dividend announcement from UBA, they are paying N1.20 and closure date is 9-10 january 2008.
For a N50 stock, I dont think this amount is reasonable.

I was at UBA registers last week to inquire for my certificate of the last PO only to be told that it was in post. Up to now I am yet to get the certificate. Is there anyone out there in the same situation? Have others been receiving theirs?

@Ckenneths
I agree with you about the UBA dividend, people were expecting bonus declaration as they did better that even UBN. but dont you think the current price offers a good entry oppurtunity? I wonder why a share price will fall after an excellent result was declared, thats NSE for you. As for me I think I`m buying, what do you think? |

dear house,
i have read write-ups on a lot of shareholders who are yet to get their certificates after a very long time.i happen to fall in that category in the sense that i have not yet gotten my intercontinental bank certificate from the 2006 p.o it's a shame that quoted companies that are suppose to lead by good examples are the ones that are now acting nagatively eg intercontinental bank, UBA & IGI insurance. but all this acts are been done on purpose.some companies collude with their registrars to release certificates in bits so that the market would not flooded with shares of investors who feel that they have gained enough-eg intercontinental p.o at N13.50, current pr @ above N35-and want to off-load. they do not want their share pr to fall & therefore force the registrar to comply.the registrars comply because they do not want to lose the client.remember that '' he who pays the piper dictates the tune ''. that is one of the things we have to put up with,at least, for now till the regulatory bodies wake up to their responsibilities. let us all pray for paperless transactions in 2008 as been advocated in certain quarters provided they do not influence & manipulate that process as well. one love & compliments of the season. |

Hi Guys, find below Afrinvest opinion on UBA. what do you think
Highlights - UBA Q1 2008 result show significant improvement in top and bottom lines of Nigeria ’s most profitable bank. After tax margins improved from 20% in Q1 2006 to 24%. Year-end PAT for the period ending September 2008 comes to N36.7 billion when Q1 result is annualized, yielding an attractive forward EPS of N3.25 (the highest in the industry). Forward P/E of 15.4x is one of the lowest for any bank in Nigeria . In our opinion, UBA appears undervalued relative to its top-tier peers. Given the bank's strong earnings potential, we see room for significant price upside within the next 12 months. We reiterate our recommendation of UBA as a strong buy, and anticipate significant activity in the stock during Q1 2008. |

As UBA has equity interest in Afrinvest.
Welcome to UBA Group Website Can this analysis be said to be independent? |

One person mentioned on a Zenith post that they've received the UBA 2006 PO share certificate. Can anyone else confirm this?
Also Zenith vs UBA on the market? Any opinions welcome |

Yes, you have a point on UBA owning Afrinvest so they are more or less blowing their trumphet, but the independence of this report is not the issue.
The truth here is that the numbers are speaking for themselves and the market has begun reacting to the results. UBA closed today @ =N=50.5 a gain of 171k (3.5%) Is UBA shares currently undervalued considering this results and their prospects? |

UBA now has a forward PE that is less than 16x.
This is a discounted stock by far. Get your copy at a vendor near you

United Bank for Africa, Nigeria’s biggest lender by asset base, said it currently has no plans to seek funds through the capital market, just as it got the nod from its shareholders to increase its authorised share capital.
The shareholders of the bank on Friday passed a resolution that the authorised share capital of the bank be increased from N6bn to N7.5bn by the creation of three billion ordinary shares of 50 kobo each. “All we have done is to create room for any eventuality. But let me state that we do not intend to go to the market now,” the Group Managing Director, UBA, Mr. Tony Elumelu, told journalists in Abuja on Friday after the bank’s annual general meeting. |
