One thing you can be sure of is that people 'dey shack 4 Naija ' so brewery stocks might not be a bad idea esp bcos of the present economic (or should I say financial) boom. Let's see what we can find out.

Uh uh, we got a problem! The last time Champion Breweries made a profit was in 2004 (N143m). This year (2007), it will make a loss of over N300m. But I guess this also has its positive side.

Given the low volumes of Champion Breweries shares traded daily and the few associated number of transactions, one wonders what is keeping the price static at N3.30 if teh current sentiment in the market is anything to go by.

I think there were supposed to do a RIGHTS offer or something and it has been on suspension for a while now (maybe a year?)

Hispy99 pls can you tell us all you know about CB. The only thing I heard sometime ago was that the Present Governor of Anambra State wants to revive the company in collaboration with 4 other south east governors who are all shareholders to the company.

the problem with premier breweries.
the major share holder is no longer anambra state cos the over 45% stake of the state was sold to the chairman of the company by one former military administator of the state. the governor, mr peter obi is trying to revive the company by partnering with castle beer south africa but the chairman is thwarting all his effort. the chairman is just saying that mr peter obi want to take the company from him. for now the company is just empty structures and the chairman is in control not state government. i will keep an eye on them and will alert the house on any developement. |

are they exempted from Tax? and it looks like people just stopped drinking their beers within the last year.

They had a negative PBT and are thus exempted from paying tax for those years... they will have a deferred tax assets which can be used to reduce taxes going forward when they return to profitability.

PO/PP for Champion breweries? I don't see how that can succeed. Maybe a rights issue.
