Oshare, IHS may have been founded by a lebanese but its no longer a lebanese company. we have a lot of vested interest from european companies who are invested in them and they all have controlling stakes in the policy making of the company. you also have IFC, INVESTEC,FMO and above all WENDEL which is french. Its not a kora wayo company any longer . Between what is new with IHS?
Have you heard anything?

This is a not is asking anybody to sell, hold or buy and I do not work for IHS .
However, if you are not ready to hold for 10 years, dont bother . The investing philosophy of wendel is long term .

nothing new i have seen IHS, but of late i have been thinking of coys where i can 'abandon' some cash hoping to get a 'nestle' type of return in years to come. i have told myself that i cannot trust any coy manage by a Nigerian for such 'invest and sleep' approach. Also, i like the nature of their business because i feel is the future and will keep growing expecially in Africa that is their Catchment area. I actually had looked at MTI in the past but they seem to have gone underground.

i am not unaware of the huge issued number of shares they have issued/still issueing, i am looking at good management and opportunity for constant growth. for my children investment

The main challange they may have is power issue and security challange in countries like Sudan and probably Nigeria, but i think they are in a mouth watering business and almost monopolistic

IHS is a looooong term investment with gestation period of 5 to 10 years before they even start to break even. I periodically drop some coins there too. My broker told me that I get chest when I told him I was buying and he is prolly reading this post.

These guys exist because of the power inefficiencies, what happens when the various DISCOs start signing contracts with telecoms firms to supply them steady power at a premium?

Telecom companies are already embracing Managed services worldwide. Even with power efficiencies, it might be more cost effective for some Telecom operators to buy such services rather than keeping a pool of staff or tools to do the same.

I don't think so; they exist because they can most likely provide a cost effective way for telcos to operate base stations. There is no way base stations run by one telco will be more cost effective to build and maintain than those base stations that are shared amongst several telcos. The business model makes sense to me, but the losses fear me small. I'm also perplexed about the slow down in revenue between 2010 and 2011. Maybe 2012 result will provide some clarity.

Oga Nosa, na my area be dis just as Oil and Energy is to some people. Managed and colocation services is where the money is going in IT and it seems to me that IHS' plan is to corner the african market.
Except some disruptive technology comes around out of the blues to change the distributed networking paradigm entrenched by the internet, IHS is going to keep on raking the money in the future.

More importantly, its becoming obvious to everyone that Africa will never be able to invest enough in a landline infrastructure as they've already missed out on copper and don't seem to have the political will or funds to build a fibre infrastructure hence will remain largely dependent on mobile technologies. IHS' potential is huge, it will take some time for them to get there but all their ideas are right with a lot of room to even expand their service offerings.
