Hi,
I need a clarification on the format of CSCS numbers. I had a broker that opened an account for me an a CSCS number with 10 digits. The broker bought stocks for me against my instructions after holding on to my funds for almost a month. As I did not like the level of service, I crossed over to another broker who insisted on opening another CSCS account for me. The number sent this time has 8 digits. From this broker website I can naaviage to my CSCS account where I can view my positions. I still have stocks with the former broker which I have to transfer anyway since the chap bought me stocks of a company that had just started technical suspension so selling is not an option at the moment. However, is it correct that CSCS numbers do not have a particular format? In other words, the number can consist of 8 or 10 or even 7 digits. Last edited by pumping : 22nd August 2007 at 08:59 PM. @pumping
you will get a cscs registration number (or CHN which may mean clearing house numner) which is 10 characters.. usually starts with a C and ends with OP with 7 digits in between. you will also get a CSCS account number which is 8 digits. so it seems ur first broker gave u the registration number only and the second one gave u the account number only. ideally each of them should give you two number. u may go back and ask for the other numbers. |

en-y,
Thanks for your comment. Unfortunately this is not the case. I got the CHN number for both brokers and each has 3 alphabets and 7 numbers which adds up to 10. I also recieved separate CSCS numbers from each broker. The first one has 9 digits and the 2nd one has 8 digits. These are numbers only. Thanks. Pumping |

From what I saw in my cscs printout, there is ;
1. investor ID =8 digits,no alphabets, 2.clearing house no= one alphabet in the beginning, then seven digits of figures, two alphabets ending, 3.account number= 7 digits a - and another 2 digits. |

Ideally if you use the same name and the same address, CSCS should not have issued another CHN account number, all you should have will be another investor account. The way it works is that when you open your first CSCS account, you will have a CHN number that is the one with an alphabet and numbers and then an investor account with just numbers. If you then open another brokerage account, CSCS will just issue you with another investor account. This will ensure that should you subscribe to CSCS , all your accounts with different brokers will be listed under one CHN number. So the investor accounts from both brokers which is 8 digits and 9 digits doesn't really matter as the investor account will keep increasing in digits as more people open an account with CSCS . The important thing is that all your investor accounts be linked to your CHN number. If you contact CSCS (in person I think), they will consolidate the CHN account for you. |

Question, when you fill out some IPO applications that ask for your "CSCS account number", if you want shares directly credited to your cscs position, should you be writing down your CHN number (beginning with alphabet, a few digits & ending with 2 alphabets) or should you be writing down your "investor account number" (all digits). Thanks!

The all numeric number is the one that you fill into the IPO form. That is actually your investor account number with CSCS. You will also need to fill in the name of your stockbroker. Hope this helps. |

Thanks man!
Also, does anyone know for certain if the shares (from an IPO) will automatically get applied to one's CSCS statement if indicated, or do some companies still give out certificates regardless of if you indicate a CSCS account number or not. I plan on having a stock broking account with a stock broking firm, but not sure how all this is done in the case of public offers. Any info will be useful. Thanks! |
