The last audited result had no dime of cash to back up the declared profit. For those holding on to it, is it because of the Q1 they are still holding; and hoping somehow for a sudden turnaround to cash profitability?

By the way the margin in this sector is not encouraging.

Dokta, God haf catch you....So eterna was d stock you were talking about the other time....LMAO

i just knew that one day you'll give a clue and I would burst your small secret. I took a look at their numbers last week and I wasn't impressed with the way their creditors jumped year or year...It appears they are pushing out a log of products on credit in a bid to sell volumes and it's a huge drain on their cash status.

I'm on the look out for their Q2 as well....

Oga Horlads, you dey make me laff. But seriously speaking, have you gone back to pre-melt-down results circa 2007/08? These were the kind of results companies were churning out back then. Paper profits!!!!

Another trend that bothers me is 'longterm receivables'. What products would a petroleum company in Nigeria have that would require this classification in its assets? Almost all their products have a ready market in Nigeria. Is it that the product is not selling? Or that the customer is government? Better still, are they returned or obsolete products that should have been re-classified back into inventory?

Paper profit is not even food; it is just the scent of chicken. So you are bound to ask ''where is the chicken?''

Sir Dr.Abrahamb, thanks for the usual insights. Come to think of it, most of the stocks in this sector are not even selling at a premium compared to the bubble we had before the meltdown.
So when the chips finally come down, what will happen?

The Oil marketing companies are the most risky to invest in for value investors right now. The risks range from the Global Oil price fluctuations to Removal of the "Fuel Subsidy" largesse, etc

In the pre meltdown era, these companies used to release only the income statement... revenues, profit before tax, tax and profit after tax. That was all. Once they double their profits, the stock would quadruple in less than two months. When they were forced to include the balance sheet, the stockbrokers had no idea what to do with them. It is a good start... the next step is for them to include the quarterly cash flow statements.

Question -

Has the oil subsidy largesse benefited the ordinary shareholder on the street?

That is the koko, personally with the problems with the sector,i think the stock was punished enough. Personally the support level should be N2,i might be wrong.
