actually the amount of capital is the least of all factors, I'll advise you to read thru this forum and ask questions on particular stocks that you might be interested in, personally i'm all in but i might pull out of stocks which i feel have run their course and invest in banks, fidelity bank to be specific

Fidelity is one of few banks that were able to pay a dividend last year, they've not been affected by this recent bull, and its currently trading close to its 52 week low. From the last financial statement you'll notice an over 60% increase in turnover and a huge decline in profits which was caused by aggressive write offs, in this current financial year i dont expect us to have such write offs so i expect to see a tremendous increase it PAT. Generally speaking i think this is the year for banking stocks, and despite the fact that fidelity might not be in same league with GTB, I believe its a better stock because the GTB's of this world are on the spotlight so its more likely to be rightly priced/ slightly undervalued while (to me) fidelity is grossly undervalued.

I think you are mixing things up here, Fidelity's 52 week low is N1.68 and not anywhere near it's current N2.50. I doubt if they will pay dividend this early too.

The full year results of the banks will soon be here and I have a feeling that investors will generally be disappointed. Nothing pains more than no dividend or 5k dividend from a bank. Reality will set in at that point. Moreover, profitability would have been hit. I won't consider most banks beyond speculation at the moment. I guess I can still take a risk with GTB.

I agree with Pumping. Banks may not be the wisest investments these days going by the startling revelations of the past few months. I would rather go for the manufacturing sector especially firms producing essential daily needs.

I agree with this. It is a safe bet especially if you are not planning on taking a huge loss.

If you want to take a huge risk which might come with huge reward, then there are other interesting sectors to look at - banking, construction etc.

remember that in this business you cant buy what is popular and do well, some banks have been and are still growing their turnover, now their results look bad because of the aggressive write offs (which can be compared to the hit flour mills with the forex losses (they're both one off events)) but I believe that thats coming to an end an end and once they release quarterly results and investors see the huge jump in PAT, we'll have the same story of cant get to buy.

Well, banks are still very popular. Investors love banks to the point that they still see them as they were before things went sour. However, things have changed.

The banks are likely going to be the most profitable sector in Nigeria for now, going forward...

Bros, I no know about PHB and Inter o; PHB is up by almost 70% and Inter by 40% this year. You might just have been too late to the party. I am keeping clear of most of the SLS5 because there's just too much uncertainty about what is going to happen to them next. If I would touch any of them, it might be FinBank (when it drops ~ 50k) and maybe WEMA.

why did you pick two sick banks, i consider investments in these "FGN" banks equivalent to playing russian roulette, who ever is holding the stock when the eventual sale is announced is going to get wiped out but in the mean time huge profits can be made, but timing and discipline are very important. Why not look @ the UACN thread and see if it appeals to you, i'm personally considering dangote sugar. Note my current portfolio is CCNN, UACN, AG leventis and tantalizers

Thank. though why i was considering phb n inter is that very soon, the lifeline of dat crazy man @ cbn wil xpire..also lookin technical, their shares r grossly undervalued(my principle 1_when d market is looking one way, look the otherway)....in the shortrun,im forseeing mini bull runs within jan. And early feb.those banks r sittin up and vigorously balancing their books..for long term,in event of takeover, they wil buy up or revalue shares n dat may push up prices...dont u c d possibily of 40% roi by feb? Although wil try gettin uacn as hedge, wil also get little of banks 4short run.so between phb n inter, which has the slightest chance of 'a bright future'

WillHenry... we don't call people names here oo... many of us disagree with some of his actions but does not stop of from taking advantage of any loophole we may feel he is creating like you are trying to do. Those stocks you mentioned have gained almost 50% year to date and no one has any idea what will happen going forward. They are risky buys at the moment but if you have a long term horizon, not the February time frame you are looking at, then you may go for it.

Personally, I won't touch those stocks at the moment though I was able to get First inland at 50K it has not moved like the rest of them and I UBN at around N6.12.
