Does anyone have any ideas on UNIC insurance? I hear they've been making a lot of waves in the health sector recently. Is this for real or just rumor?

Don't know whether they are making LOT of waves. However they have a 'club' at VGC. They are also partnering a number of hospitals to provide health insurance. They seem set for greater things but the overbearing influence of Shonekan is evident in the company. I expect theit full year 2006 result to be out in a couple of days. That should set the tone for future performance. They seem to have a good business plan.

They did a PO last year at 1.10 which was UNDER subscribed. Now it is hovering aroud 4.00 though it once moved near the 5.00 mark! For the long term, it is worth looking at.

Unic result not really too bad after write down of extra-ordinary items and div of 5K. Well lets see how the market is going to react. This stock is already under valued. Can this stock get any love from this down trodden market?

Can members of this house share with me their statistics on share float of UNIC Insurance? I got 2,581,733,505 from (often unreliable) Meristem website and this gives forward EPS of 36 kobo and P/E ratio of 5.4 times at yesterday's market closing price of 1.97 Naira (which seems almost too good to be true, even under this bear market situation).

UNIC Insurance Plc today released its un-audited results for the second quarter ended 30th June, 2008. Turnover grew by 20.75% to N1.28 billion; PBT soared by 50.22% to N451.12 million from N300 million while PAT also increased by 47.61% to N369.92million from N250.6 million in the corresponding period of 2007.

If companies were required to release a full income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement, we would be able to make an informed guess. As is, these interim statements provide little basis for sound investment decisions.

A number of insurance companies have suffered with the market downturn, so I am not too surprised by this result. It seems as if these insurance firms had significant exposures to the market.
