As a starter, yes u are not sure of the world u are in,you can have 50stocks in ur your port... But as an average 10-15 is ok and as a pro which i plan to b this year 5 shld b d maximum..

As for NEM u have nothing to Lose while u have ALL to gain by buying it

I am very sure you are a Papa investor. Just stick to the strategy that works for you.
For baby investors like me, i will still prefer to diversify across various asset classes.

The greatest investor, Warren Buffet, calls diversification a protection against ignorance. And if you think about it he's right, we all know right now that nem is quite possibly the cheapest stock on the exchange so not buying as much of it as you can is sheer lunacy. If one was a fund manager with legal requirements then there's an excuse but to argue against buying a stock with a p.e of less than 2, trading at 20% of its book value and an ROE that's over 25% is (I can't think of a suitable adjective). as long as the nem status quo is maintained I fully intend to keep buying only nem and I don't think I need to diversify just for the sake of it.

I hope you realize that NEM has been about the "cheapest" stock on the NSE for a long time....

The NEM bug don de catch me o, courtesy of Oga nosa. But like Arsene Wenger was once told at Arsenal, I cant buy unless I sell.

So, may be I should just sell my AIICO and even FIDELITY take buy NEM( at nothing more than 50k)

After all, its like NEM has a better dividend yield than those two.

So, if NEM like, let it continue being the cheapest stock on the NSE, at least I go de enjoy d dividend.

Real NEM SURPLUS SAVINGS PLUS account.

Me, I really like taking risks! Shebi thats what insurance is all about.

Honestly it surprises me why Aiico should be trading more than NEM. It appears that there is more confidence toward Aiico than NEM. I tried to do my little research and the only conclusion I arrived at is that it could be because of management and board of director. I welcome all other contra ideas.

That was why I put "cheapest" in quotes. Maybe I should have stated "one of the cheapest" instead.

I am so sorry for badging in like this after a long time. However, i have forgotten how to create a fresh post and don't have the patience to learn it again. I am presently running fast and SMN is one place i don't want to break things. ;-) Once again, accept my apologies.

However, i wanted to ensure my SMN constituency is carried along and given a front-row opportunity to participate in the attached. My email exchange with Hispy is actually what reminded me not to let this pass SMN by. Please read. (P.S: i am the Dr. Olumide in the "Seed Round Invite" document.)

Am impressed! Infact I have actually bought a couple of items from this site Nigeria's No.1 Online Grocery Store from my office at V.I witout even knowing that i was patronising our own great Omydee!

The service was awesome, their pricing was also good and when i asked the customer service guys why they do not have a reach at Surulere, they confided in me that they were only able to service V.I, Lekki N' Ikoyi at the moment and that they were raising capital to expand to cover the whole of lagos soonest.

am not missing this oppurtunity for any thing in the world to be the co owner of the next AMAZON!

I can relate to this especially on the NSE. I used to own a bit of almost all the listed companies on the NSE as at 2003. The strategy then was so that I can get to attend their agms and have a voice/get their audited accounts for analysis especially when internet in naija had not exploded (coy websites, etc).
Some of the companies have died or are moribund (e.g with no divs), like dunlop, delta glass, enamel, onwuka interbiz, rokana, intercon, oceanic, etc., while others had outperformed spectacularly like nestles, fbn, gtb, roads, ncr, zentih, bcc, total, mobil, etc. What is interesting is that I continue to get divs on the good companies, even when i thought i had sold off all my portfolio position on them, etc. At my spare time, I catch fun from chasing unclaimed dividends
Overall, I am in a very positive territory wrt what had gone into the NSE and what is returning.

So, I think for the very long termer, diversification across sectors on established companies is the safest play. But what do I know?
