Why are people still interested in the Nigerian insurance companies? Most of them are poorly managed, lacks accountability and efficient risk management systems. They are mostly under-capitalized, myopic in their business strategies, operate in a most difficult environment, and thus mostly under-perform.

Whilst there are great potentials in the sector, the attainment of success will depend on the capacity of the regulatory and governmental bodies to free and improve the insurance space, unearth the latent energy in the industry and strengthen its growth possibilities.

This broad statement is not applicable to all the insurance companies. There are some of them that are definitely well run and the market knows them. Gross premiums seem to be on the increase over the past few years and this trend is expected to continue especially with enforcement of insurance for certain economic activities expected to start before the ending of this year.

Couple this with foreign flow of investment that is bound to happen if the Prime Minister puts her acts together (I have 85% confidence that she will). These foreign investors will demand for better insurance regulation since the FG seems to be on the move to ensure this local content policy in the sector.

Ability to spot the well run companies in the rough will be a value added activity in the medium term before the bulls enter the insurance space. It is bound to happen; it is when that I am not sure of.

Yeah...17.6% increase in turnover and 62.7% increase in trade debtors! I wonder how much of this will be collected by year end. There will probably be reversals and its only then that we will know the true position!

While going through the annual report of this company i noticed that from 2006 to 2009 as i don't have 2010, it add the taxation to it PBTin other to get the PAT, I wonder how tax can be an income. Most of the time a loss before tax would now be turn into profit after taxation in thier report. Could someone pls explain how this is possible

When a company generates loss before tax, there is usually a tax rebate that will help reduce the level of loss... then you will notice that the PAT is higher than the PBT.
