The gist is the GTA intends to raise it's share capital from N5B to N13B between now and the next month.
I do not know anyother way that can be accopmlished except thru PP.

We do not have to jump into conclusion too quickly as the parent company, GTB, may inject the additional capital into it. GTB, unlike Wema Bank or UBN, has never publicly indicated its interest to list any of its subsidiaries in the stock exchange.

I agree with you risk return. GTBank would probably be pumping the increase in share capital.
Eventually, many of those bank will list their subsidiaries as I heard UBA plans to do, and as a condition of the NSE must raise some capital by pp before being considered for listing.
How soon? only time will tell.

Surely, as their subsidiaries get bigger n earn beta bucks they'd need to spinn off. So lets look at year end for some bank subsidiaries pp

Since GTA has just done a private placement, I expect that they would be doing an Initial Public Offer soon.
I heard that the private placement was very profitable for its investors too.

I gathered from two reliable sources 2 weeks ago that GTA are about to undertake a rights offer. Does anyone have any information about this rights offer?

Does anyone have any info on GTA's proposed Right issue? How can one get in on it? Is it possible to get someone that took part in the PP but is not interested in the rights? I am interested

The rights issue is for current shareholders iin the company. You'll have to wait till the shares are listed to get a bite.

I read in the Business Day that GTA are about to emback on a Rights Offer to Shareholders on the Register as at 23rd October 2007. The price will be N1.25. You can buy 1 share for every 4 you already have.
