There are many investment clubs in Nigeria presently. I am a member of one located in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, each member is a equal partner and we have been on for more than 2 years now.
If you are in PH, I will recommend that you to join us. Then I can give you more details and the worth of the club. |

Yes. There are many investment clubs and companys.
More than fifty years later, the Mutual Investment Club is still active. Membership has grwon from six people to 22 (although only 15 continue to invest regularly). The group has invested a total of $220,000, from monthly contributions of $20 to $25 during the lifetime of the club. The value of the club's portfolio is worth more than $2.2 million. Not bad considering members, at one time or another, have withdrawn $1.4 million.

I am interested in starting a new investment club and am based in Lagos. Anyone interested can mail me at kiibaati at gmail dot com.
I hope that if we can get at least 10 people who are willing to be actively involved, it could be worthwhile. Memebers will discuss and agree details of the clubs operations, of course. Anyone interested? |

All you need to do is you can open an account with your broker that CSCS account. Cscs account gives you update on your money that you invest in with broker. |

Going to a broker and setting yourself up is not the same thing as working with an Investment club. You can have your broker but the benefits of an Investment club are too many enormous to be ignored. Remember an Investment club does not substitute for a broker. As a matter of fact, Investment clubs must use one or few brokers otherwise they cannot trade. It is the pooling of resources, education of members, sharing of risk, diversification of portfolio and many more that make joining an investment club a must.

I am yet to see much advantage of investment clubing. I quite agree with education of members as a benefit, if the club is grounded to make this an important goal of the club. Other points you mentioned are in the mutual funds except if there is nothing like trustee or management cost in investment clubing. Since you have started your club, could you throw more light into how you operate? We know about contributing money every month which is the pooling of resources. What about articles of association, rights of members, who owns the shares that will be bought with collective money, signatories to accounts, cscs etc. The big bang for me on this investment clubing is mainly the legal issues. we can write and sign agreements or rules through lawyers and courts but the consequencies of 'fraud' in the clubing will outweigh the benefits. I am not sure if the nigerian financial legal system has provided to investment clubing, even if it does, the time it will take to push the case through and get refunds will be tortuose.
