IMHO, investing in foreign stocks requires you to get a lot of info about foreign markets. I think Sectrust and IBTC have mutual funds comprised entirley of foreign stocks, but they are for their high net worth customers. If you would want to invest in foreign stocks individually then you would need to open an account with an online stockbroker. You would also need to send them the money electronically.

@effizyguy: why would you want to go the way of foreign stocks? the returns are not that impressive! Did you read the article in one of the wall street journals of this week that mentioned that the markets with the highest returns this year have been in africa (or emerging markets as they call it)? Infact the NSE was on the list with a 35% year to date return. With foreign stocks, taxes and fees will eat deep into your returns.

Foreign direct investment (FDI) is defined as a long-term investment by a foreign direct investor in an enterprise resident in an economy other than that in which the foreign direct investor is based. The FDI relationship, consists of a parent enterprise and a foreign affiliate which together form a transnational corporation (TNC). In order to qualify as FDI the investment must afford the parent enterprise control over its foreign affiliate. The UN defines control in this case as owning 10% or more of the ordinary shares or voting power of an incorporated firm or its equivalent for an unincorporated firm.
