Default Valuation for Investment Club

I belong to an investment club here in Lagos. We have been deliberating on what method to use in accounting for our contribution. We have streamlined to two, which are; 1. Unit Valuation System 2. Percentage of Contribution. Can anyone recommend a good system for me.

Thanks

Ugo (Limeshare Investment Club)

UVS is your best bet especially if you do not want to run a club where each member has to contribute equally on a fixed date in a month.

Please am thinking of putting a club together where me and some friends can pull resources together for the stock market i see some of us are already into it. Can you please tell me where to get information on how the club should be run and the best method to avoid confusion among friends.

Thanks

Hello Ugo,
I would adopt a unit valuation system with the basis being your authorized shares of 50K or N1.00 each. Contributions will as such be by way of number of shares held by each contributor. It will also be the basis for sharing profits, etc...you can't go wrong this way.

If you are worried about people "growing teeth overnight" maybe you should consider bringing an investment lawyer into the mix ....This may end up costing you guys more money but it will give you a better level of assurance....

Default Valuation for Investment Club

I have spearheaded the formation of an Investment Club in Port Harcourt. So far, we have 35 members with portfolio size of almost N20million. It has run very smoothly in the last 5 months.
