Default The Technical Analysis Edge

Hi Peeps

This new thread will be skewed towards Technical analysis of the market (NSE),I think i have some ideas, the approach is simple:

Technical Analysis of preferred stocks ( based on discretion and suggestions) will be done on a monthly basis and updates will be done as the month progresses.

I will be running the thread with my blog, but i would be here most of the time.

NB - This thread is suitable for short-time investors with value orientation( whatever your interpretation)

Please I might not be able to explain somethings in details, due to restrictions, please bear with me. Thank you for your understanding.

Caveat: Please this is my personal opinion and i am not responsible for your actions based on my recommendations, so trade at your own risk.

Default Re: The Technical Analysis Edge

I have attached a First bank Chart, to illustrate some basic concepts, the chart is a 8 months chart and from that chart we can see that in the last 5 months we have being in an uptrend, as described by the Andrew median line or the channel.

We should not forget that when we have uptrends like this we also have mini- pullbacks, waiting for these will help us to time our entry and make us take trades with high probability of success.

Also note that each securities has its own cycle, understanding this will also be an added advantage.

How to trade:

Going forward i will be willing to buy half of my position at 15 naira and load the other half at the lower end of the trend-line which is the open of the year depending on market condition.

A break above the upper trend-line which i envisage will happen will signal another set of upward movement.

Below are the monthly levels i was looking at for February:

R3 18.94
R2 17.57
R1 16.36
Pivot 14.99
S1 13.78
S2 12.41
S3 11.2

Market is currently trading around the monthly Pivot, one of the reasons am buying. I will update as deem fit.

Thank you.

Bros lordgbengss. If you're still around, lets see if we can revive discussions on this thread. I think if at least two of us give contrasting opinions on the above it will make it more interesting.

Thank you
For H1 2014, I expect a positive outlook for the equities market due to expected release of full year results with corporate actions and the msci rebalancing coming on stream, this should boost foreign participation in this market. I have a muted sentiments towards banking, i prefer the non banking stocks.

Below is one of the technical strategies i will be looking at for 2014, its called the Pivot strategy, you can google this up, i have also set the price target i will be looking at for the top 40 stocks (to be attached shortly)

On the other hand I went contrarian in favour of the banking stocks. Some of them were treated as if they were about to go bust (the likes of FCMB, SkyeBank). Have finished buying anyway unless SkyeBank touches N3.9.

Its fine, when you get them at a bargain, but if you look over a 4 year period banking stocks have not really been fantastatic compared to some other sectors.

If Aig becomes the new CBN supremo as he is being touted to, do you think he will be as aggressive as SLS? I ask this in view of the fact that he owns a sizeable %age of Access bank.

Whosoever becomes Govenor will not be as aggressive imo, because SLS era has been about tightening all the way and that can not last forever, and this position is political and oga at the top will like s1 that can share money as this 2015 election will be in dollars, so Aig or no Aig will not change the dynamics imo
