I used to say it here that people steal money from govt through inflation of contracts and reduction in standards.

This is an example:
If I open a bid for the construction of X km of road, I will get their quotations. You will tell your front to submit their quotation having a lower value than Maybe(Julius Berger) and having the same specifications of the road,materials to be used etc. Then you knock off the main contractor that will do the job.

If a job is meant to be done with N30b. You will need to budget like N30b plus a certain percentage for unforeseen changes that might occur. That unforseen changes will be pocketed. Then I will press on the contractor to reduce standards/quality. If the road thinkckness is to be 8 inches thick, you may tell them to make it 4 inches. This is a savings from material, labour and time! If the road is to be X km long, you may reduced it by some measurement and you will have savings from material, labour and time. If the road is to be Y metre wide, you will reduce it by some measurement and you will have savings from material, labour and time.

At the end of the job, you will be earning more than the contractor doing the job for doing NOTHING!

There is no standard, no supervision. There is Nothing!

Enter AMNI (or is it AMIN?) International Petroleum Development Company. AMNI owns two oil blocks – OML 112 and OML 117. In the production sharing contract, AMNI gets 60% for owning the oil block and Total gets 40% for providing technical advice. OML 112 was awarded on the 12/02/1998 while OML 117 was awarded 06/08/1999 all by Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar. Operations started on both blocks 0n 26/02/2006. There is/was a conspiracy/arrangement and it's not based on tribe but rather as compensation for loyalty to the illegal military government of the day. It so happens that the most (not all) of those who benefitted were northerners but it wasn't based on tribe.

The truth is that if Nigerians want to move forward they need to start telling themselves the truth. Everyone who committed treason needs to have their award stripped, they need to be tried and sentenced to death (they could then be pardoned), every economic decision carried out by these governments that benefitted individuals needs to be reversed, this includes allocation of oil blocks, land and other concessions because the governments were illegal thus decisions taken illegal. Do this and you send a strong message that we as a society respect laws irrespective of time, but as long as you celebrate rebels and coup plotters your laws will forever remain a joke.

Search me. There is a reason why some people would rather die than see Nigeria break into two or three. Unfortunately, all these deals were cut in Lagos and Abuja and me, I was still busy writing WAEC and had no clue when they were sharing the oil wells. I for just go marry Abacha's cousin's daughter and get three oil wells in return.

You are such an idealist... Don't worry very soon Ibori will be back in Nigeria, run for a senatorial seat under the aegis of PDP and become the next senate president, after David Mark becomes the president of Nigeria, and then pass laws to fight "corruption".

What we need right now is to develop a vibrant private sector that will dwarf the Nigerian Government. We need companies that can have better credit ratings than Nigeria. UBS Warburg's asset base dwarf the GDP of Switzerland...
