Taking in isolation i think Sanusi's statement is actually quite daft. my former cmd always relate a dr's salary to other cadre of staff-- something like
1 dr==1.5 pharmacist==2nurses==3 accountants(not including what they steal o) == 10 ward ordelies etc.(not entirely accurate!)

The point am trying to make is that it is just plain stupid calling for sacking of 50% of the civil service without specifying exactly the quantitative reduction in recurrent expenditure that will be derived from such exercise.

Perhaps sacking him and a few other inept ministers will give a better result.

I read somewhere that there are 3m civil servants and we have over 160m Nigerians, adding another 1.5m to the unemployed would not be a disaster. You need to remember that if you sack half the civil service you'll be saving at least 40% of recurrent expenditure which would go directly into the capital vote. Which means there'll be more contracts which would employ mote private sector workers. Plus in order to sack 50% you'll most likely have to contract out non essential government services like schools, prisons etc, and these new owners/operators would require workers, thou most likely not as much. So the truth is what SLS is proposing would give the tax payer value for money and is something that I've been advocating for close to a decade.

Is sls a CPC member Call for Sanusi’s sack: CPC accuses labour leaders of hypocrisy - Premium Times Nigeria i actually like this part This is why we view this call by the Labour leaders for Sanusi’s sack as a cheap, opportunistic(albeit languid) ploy to crawl back to the people’s reckoning. We believe that responsible leadership is about selflessness and consistency. We advise the Nation’s Labour leaders to critically examine the policies of governments (Federal and State) that impinge on the well-being of the people instead of looking for scape-goat for cheap populism.”
