What kind of analysis led him and his advisors to the 3.5m jobs figure for the agric sector? Does the 2013 budget fund these goals? Will the program be implemented? It would be good to know how many jobs they've created to date. Adesina keeps referring to the GES system which enabled 1.2million farmers to access fertliser, this means about 9million farmers missed out. The question means, do you need phones to inform farmers about fertilisers. WHat happened to radio, for example. A simple radio campaign would have reached almost every farmer, either directly or by word of mouth. Again, how much of the promised extra 20 million MT of food supply will be provided by peasant/household farmers? In any case, what matters to Nigerians is not metric tonnes but naira. Whether the household budget on food decreases or not. That is the true test.

The solutions to many of our problems are quite simple. Some of our more impactful ministers like Ransome-Kuti and NOI made revolutional changes through simple changes. Ransome-Kuti expanded primary health care rather than embark on estbalishing more teaching hospitals while the 1st incarnation of NOI instituted a simple mechanism to save for a rainy day as opposed to using complex financial derivative contracts to hedge risks.

The bitter truth is that countries don’t become great as a result of an astronomical rise in churches and bars. That companies are folding up and churches and bars are growing should sound a warning to the government that all is not well with the Nigerian economy. The economy needs to be revived so that those who want to worship God will worship Him in truth and spirit, not because of those material things that they believe they will get from Him, but because they are convinced that He is worthy to be worshipped. In the same vein, those who want to drink alcohol will drink it as a choice, not as an escapist mechanism from hard times.

For the past 4 years that the meltdown happened I have been investing in the brewery sector and I have always returned higher than the Index or any Money market instrument..so no wahala

but why dont the churches list on the NSE self? i for don invest in one of the well run new generational churches where their followership has been increasing in large quantum since

Good and incisive article Mr Azuka…. Kudos! Any objective and enlightened person will support, agree and appreciate the write-up. It is no lie that proliferation of church is noncocomitant with good values and moral.. Someone pointed Politics as the most thriving endeavour. For the rich, Yes but for the not-so-rich or poor as the case will be, it is the churches. Rather than focusing on the of development our country and economy, our get-rich-quick syndrome is pushing us beyond the borders of Insanity. our government is not concerned with making our lives better and our people are more concerned with going to churches for vain miracles rather than fight for it all to get better.. True religion is not in miracle seeking but in loving and serving God from your Heart irrespective of your economic, physical and psychological position. It is in serving God cos he is your created duty and it is essential. Fake religion as we practice it gives birth to Corruption, loss of moral and values as we are witnessing it… Let us be productive in our everyday living as that is the way our economy, our country and our live will change for the better. That is the miracle that we need and i bet that is what God wants and expect from us this is coupled with good morals and values..

Good piece by the author. However next Sunday will record large number of worshipers turn-out in these “pastors cum con-men” churches, but don’t be dismayed because the booty will come to an end as awareness & Bible enlightenment (WISDOM) increases, and poverty decreases. My biggest blame goes to lazy people who can’t read the Bible for themselves thereby allowing these rogues to work on their psyche by filling in the gaps with truncated scriptures. How do u know a lying church? Simple!

1. If they preach giving/sowing/tithing frequently (as frequently as once in three months is too frequent), or with the slightest trace of threat involved. People should not be reminded to give or tithe if they are true worshipers because the Holy Spirit will lead them to give without the sugar tongued sermon from their pastors.

2. If they preach or pray for prosperity. Preaching or praying for prosperity doesn’t lead to acquiring it but praying for and acquiring knowledge/wisdom does! The richest men in world ever: King Solomon, John D Rockefeller, Bill Gates etc didn’t pray for prosperity am aware of, instead they asked/acquired wisdom which brought prosperity.

3. If they ask for multiple offering tagging them different names like seed/welfare/thanksgiving offering. The single “offering” is also a “seed” and a “thanksgiving” and should be used for the welfare of the entire church; pastors, members etc.
