When I saw the headlines, I was excited. We've been proved wrong! Govt was going to release its strategic grain reserves to limit the impact of the flood. But alas, it's an attack on imaginary cheap food importers. What's wrong with cheap food? It's all talk about % of total cultivated area. Not percentage of food crops (maize, cassava, yams etc) lost. More importantly, it contains no plans to ameliorate the situation.
It takes more than a cassava policy to provide food security!

I am not surprise Adesina is still saying “there will be no food crisis.” I was at the market on Saturday, the cost of tomato and onions have gone up 300 percent. My problem with the likes of Adesina is that they don’t go to the market. Adesina should tell us how much food stuffs cost now. He should do a comparative market analysis of what was the cost before and after the flood! Adesina, please visit the market and get back to Nigerians….. What is your definition of a food crisis? Cost or availability? If it is cost, what is the purchasing power of an average Nigeria? We need response to these questions.

What is food crisis? Are we not already having it when the price of every food item has doubled or trippled in the market. Methink that the minister should say there will be no severe fimine in Nigeria. They live in Aso Rock, eating imported foods without knowing what the common man is passing through.

Thanks for this. There is a fundamental disconnect between the leaders and the people. They live in totally different worlds. Sometimes, the smart thing to do is raise up your hands and admit you got it wrong. But will they do this? Rather they focus on an imaginary agenda against them.

Despite the shortcomings of the OBJ era, one thing I liked him for that he hardly spared those (especially close associates) who had allegations of corruption/incompetence against them. Did this absolve him (of course they were instances of double standards)? No. But it gave his administration some credibility. This govt has a credibility crisis that won't even start to go away until the likes of DAM are removed. But then again OBJ's work and life had taught him to make hard decisions. I hope GEJ will start to make such.
