Some countries do not tolerate nonsense like we do in Nigeria. Many of the hostages would eventually die in the hands of the captors anyway, and the Algerians know that.

That was a reckless operation! 34 hostages killed! Don't think we lost up to that number of souls during the MEND operation.

Not many countries will tolerate a reckless rescue operation that left 34 hostages dead!

Algeria is not dealing with MEND! They know who they are dealing with. Remember they had a long war with terrorism. Have you heard the countries whose nationals were killed complaining?

'A raid on Entebbe' style cannot work there. A gas plant doesn't have such manholes or tunnels that you could see in airport. The only holes you will see are on the separators or pressure vessels. Even in the design of such plants they never consider terrorist hostage taking as a hazard.

Why won't they complain? Wait for two days for the news to sink into them, then you will see that President Hollande will be on fire. People will be asking the president why it sanctioned the attack on Mali. French people will say that the fallout of French involvment in Mali was the death of hostages. Bros, it's not easy.

Algerian armies should have acted sensibly.

Also the french govt should quickly call GEJ to send troops to protect their interest in Nigeria. Cos these terrorist will always look for loopholes in countries with weakend security and then take hostages. I won't be surprised if those french people kidnapped in the North of Nigeria are handed over to Al Queda in the North African region to further weaken the french campaign in Mali.

Oga Manemi is saying that instead of (Algerian armies/govt) negotiating with those terrorist, it's better to blow the plant and kill everyone.

But he(Manemi) forgot how russia rescued theatre goers in Moscow in the October 2002 Nord-Ost siege. This was a brave act by russian special squad, though there were casualties. But just coming to shell a plant when you know that it produces gas( and not water) is absurb.

Gas plant is not issue here. You can blow up a gas plant. But the issue is the foreign nationals kidnapped and bombed.

Sir oracle, hostages have been freed in various places ranging from thick forests to built up areas with each case presenting its own unique challenges.
Operation Entebbe (just like many daredevil rescue operations) is in "Hail Mary" category of options as it was carried out after diplomacy had failed. Hostages that were freed had been questioned to know the orientation of the terminal and the type of weapons brandished by the captors before the operation was launched. The success of the op has nothing to do with the presence of tunnels or lack of. I'm not even sure tunnel was used. IDF has carried out tens of such ops successfully.
