Omatek inaugurates power products factory
By Agency reporter
Published: Tuesday, 12 Aug 2008

Omatek Ventures Plc, a leading computer assembly firm, has introduced new power back up products into the Nigerian market as a solution to the persistent power outages and surge being experienced by most businesses and households nationwide.

The firm said Omatek Engineering Services Limited, its new subsidiary, was recently commissioned to produce a range of UPS, inverters and back up systems that could be used in homes, offices, banks, hospitals, hotels, industries and factories.

Working in partnership with Kelong, a Chinese company reputed to be one of the world’s biggest UPS/power back up manufacturers, OES said it was poised to offer unbeatable services to its clients.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Managing Director, Omatek Ventures, Mrs. Florence Seriki, said that a special help desk would be created at the customers’ site where resource engineers would be available to offer back up services.

According to the Chairman Omatek Engineering Services Limited, Prof. Ayo Ogunye, the partnership with Kelong will help to set Nigeria on the threshold of sustainable economic growth, as it will improve the nation’s productive capacity.

Apart from creating more job opportunities, he said the Omatek/Kelong power initiative would bring about technology transfer, as some technical officers from Kelong would be on hand to provide technical support services.

Seriki noted that the new power back up systems were effective and efficient and would help solve the various power challenges faced by banks, manufacturers, telecommunications companies and factories.

She said it was now possible to monitor the UPS/battery levels in remote sites from the head office through the central monitor.

Omatek UPS, inverter and power back ups have low maintenance costs and will protect computers, electrical/electronic gadgets against power surge, loss of data, system breakdown occasioned by the poor power situation in the country.

The Omatek power systems come in various sizes to address the needs of the various sectors of the economy and can be customised to suit the needs of the various users.

With good international partnership like the chinese, up to date techonolgy and infastrutures in its factories, omatek is possed to become a viable assembly plant/company for the west african sub-region market, not only in the computing industry but in other indutries such as communication and electronics. Hope the management can see what am seeing.

Afribank Registrars in custody of Omatek share certificates
Posted Friday, August 22, 2008

PETER OBIORA

Proshare NI

August 22, 2008 at 19:00 GMT

Afribank Registrars Limited is in custody of Omatek Ventures Plc share certificates. A source at the Anthony Village Office of the Registrar confirmed this to Proshare NI today in Lagos Nigeria.

“Some of the Omatek Ventures share certificates are still in our custody” the source said.

This is coming on the heels of investors inundating the mail box of Proshare NI with complaints as regards the warehousing of the share certificates of the Computer producing company, Omatek. Following the company’s March 2008 Private Placement (PP).

A complaint from one N. Nwasike, Attorney, Lagos Nigeria and sent to Proshare NI reads:

“Thanks for the good works aimed at sanitising the stock market.

I bought Omatek Ventures shares via private placement a few months ago, through Afribank Capital Markets. The shares have since been listed, but they have deliberately refrained from posting out the share certificates.

I enquired from Afribank Capital at Victoria Island, and was told to go to their Registrars at Anthony Village to retrieve my share certificate if I so desire.

I believe this is a wrong and deliberate practice by Afribank/Omatek. They have not posted the certificates yet the stocks are being traded everyday, with a downward trend from the listed price.

Please find out who/what gave them the right to warehouse the certificates of shareholders at their Anthony Village Registrars office.

A friend of mine went there recently and collected his certificate. Thus, no attempt has been made to post the certificates by the Registrars.

It will be interesting to know the owners of the shares that were traded at the premium price it was listed. Thank you”

When Proshare NI sought to clarify the matter with Afribank Registrar, a close source at the company affirmed that the share certificates has been dispatched through the Nigerian Postal Services (NIPOST), but could not confirm the exact time the certificates were dispatched.

However, our source further affirmed that these certificates that were sent by post were that of investors who bought from the Issuing House, Stockbrokers and other agents.

The source also affirmed that investors who bought the Placement directly from Omatek should approach the company for their share certificates.

“If you buy from Omatek, you get your share certificate from them, Afribank Registrars sent these certificates to the company” the source affirmed.

Proshare NI had earlier sought to clarify the situation from Florence Seriki, the Managing Director (MD) of Omatek, but she travelled to Ghana and until her return sometime next week.

Omatek Ventures in March 2008 sought to raise N2.0 billion by way of Placement by offering to investors 750,000,000 Ordinary Shares of 50 Kobo each at N2.70 per share.

However, the company listed 1.5 billion Ordinary Shares of 50 Kobo each at N4.90 Kobo per share on the Floors of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE).

It is a shame that the NSE threshold is so low that companies like these are allowed to list.
I predict that many will be left holding the trash bag on this one. I hope you're not one of them.

Ghana, Omatek sign consumer scheme deal

By Sonny Aragba-Akpore

OMATEK Computers Ghana Limited, in partnership with the government of Ghana, has formally launched its e-xpress consumer initiative to make computer acquisition easy and affordable.

The e-xpress scheme was launched in conjunction with the Ministry of Communications under the umbrella of the Ghana Government Assisted PC Programme - i-Advance.

The Omatek e-xpress Consumer Scheme comes with a huge funding support from partnering banks, which makes it easy for civil servants, corporate executives, corporate organisations, educational institutions, Small and Medium Enterprise (SMEs) and students to acquire computers through a convenient payment plan, which spans between 12 and 24 months.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Group Managing Director, Omatek Ventures Plc, Mrs. Florence Seriki, said the collaboration between Omatek e-xpress scheme and the i-Advance will help to bridge the digital divide, while enhancing Information Technology (IT) penetration in Ghana.

According to Seriki, Omatek remains the only company in East, West and Central Africa that produces computers and casings from Completely Knocked Down (CKD) components sourced from the highest grades of manufacturers, thus making all Omatek computers of world-class standards comparable to any other foreign brand.

She added that the international quality consciousness of Omatek brand of products is reflected in 'The Best Systems Builder Award' presented by Microsoft in 2005. The award covers the West, East and Central Africa. The award in effect, confirms Omatek's pioneering status in building quality computer brands

In his remarks, the Ghanaian Minister of Communications, Dr. Benjamin Aggrey-Ntim, said the new partnership between Omatek e-Xpress and i-Advance will enhance e-governance, especially in the public sector and will also make the country become a truly technology driven society. He urged civil servants to optimise the use of the computers to justify government's expenditure on Information and Communications Technology (ICT) infrastructural development.

The event also marked the official unveiling the new Omatek brand identity, power products and 8"& 10"TFT screen positioned for the education sector.

On hand to launch the e-Xpress was Aggrey-Ntim. The Ghanaian Minister of Education, Prof. Dominic Forbi, unveiled the Omatek 8in smartbook while the head of Nigerian High Commission to Ghana, Sen. Musiliu Obanikoro, unveiled the new Omatek corporate identity

The impressive ceremony, which was held at the State House Banquet Hall, was attended by the Ghanaian Minister of Defence, Kan Daapa, members of the diplomatic corps, representative of the Nigerian High Commission in Ghana, top bank executives in Ghana and Omatek directors among others.
