i live abroad and so had to get someone backhome to buy all equities from the primary market. he got them all but they all carry his signature.

now i want to open an account with a stockbroker. how do i go about it? i heard the signature and the certificates have to be verified. since i'm not home, how could that be done? do i have to be physically present to do all these? could they be done on my behalf...open brokerage acct, have my certs n signature verified and so on?

I was in a similar position- best to make out time and go back to get an account opened with a reliable broker (recomendations guys?), then get the ball rolling with regards to certs verification, etc. It can be a tedious process but very much worth it.

Hello Ade,

I was enthused when I read your post. That is the same story in many quarters. The major challenge in Nigeria's Stock Exchange is direct access. Inability for traders to access the exchange from the comfort of their homes and do their own research and consequently place an order.

But I have been preaching and what I believe the trend is telling us, is for us to think globally.

It is now possible for you and I to buy any stock anywhere in the world through direct access trading.

In the global markets, equity traders can enjoy up to times 10 margin on their investment. That is, if you have $10,000 deposit with your broker you can enjoy up to $10,000 x 10 buying power.

The good news is that this is already happening in Nigeria, Africa. And we here at PECT GLOBAL LTD. RC 725922, is championing this course continentally.

Another advantage is that you do not need to call your broker to buy Japaul of Con oil for example, all you have to do is to place an order over the internet and it is executed as soon as the market opens for the day.

Currently, we have direct access to over 57 exchanges all over the world.

Only recently, Bear Stearns, the share price of the largest investment bank in America was fell from $159 to $2.

This was a big advantage to us. We simply bought at that all time low and now the price has hit $11. And this happened in less that 10days

There are dozens of opportunities like this globally. And if your reason for investing is o make money then think GLOBALLY.

Nigeriananalyst,

Your preaching will not solve Ade's problem and you seems to be confident of this global trading. But have you been trading globally your self? It is easier said than done my man, i live in the uk and ev traded globally once through one leading stockbrokers in the world even with a starting credit facility of £5,000:00 and i still do spreadbetting. I dont intend to go into details but if you dont have a super functioning liver dont go into it and dont advice others to because from what i ev read from you, you are only marketing and not a global trader.

Ade, there reputable and efficient stockbrokers in nigeria where you can buy and sell online and you don,t have to travel to Nigeria to open an account with them. But in respect of the ipo/po's bought on your behalf, a friend of mine was in a similar situation but he waited untill he had the oppotunity to trave to Nigeria and got them sorted out. I will get more details from him. I have always thought i have to travel to Nigeria to get things done but i have come to realized i can get them done without travelling to Naija just the way i wont them. If you can not travel to Naija, you will have to take a step at a time. First of all open an account with a stockbroker, i think that way the stockbroker can help.

You will need the person who bought the shares for you to write a letter stating that he bought them on your behalf and you will also need something to prove your name and your signature as well.

Hello Three Crown,

Thanks for your remarks and comments.

I am not a marketer of any sought. My company is the first Nigerian global stock introducing broker. And Yes, I am a trader. I trader on currencies and stocks. I do not engage in betting. Global stocks trading is a magnified form of what happens locally in NSE but with advantages.

Understand that there is a global trend taking place currently. The US economy is fast entering recession. And the effect on most blue chips companies is negative. With global stock you could go short (SELL) into the market so that when the price hits a far lower price you BUY and make profit.

Also realize that the overall direction of every companies expectation is upwards. So even when stock prices hits its low, it is still a great opportunity to BUY at that price.

Here is a classic scenario of what happened two weeks ago. One of the largest investment bank in the U.S. was in crisis and the share price of $159 fell to $4. This was a great opportunity for traders. I bought at $4.85 and in five days it rose to $11.23 and its currently at $10.72. That is over 150%. Such things happens every day.

Also you enjoy margin trading global stocks. When you open your trading account $1000 for example, your buying power is $2000 if your broker gives you a 1:2 margin.

I encourage African's to think globally. It is time to for us to position globally. Understand that wealth is neither created nor destroyed but transfered from persons to persons, nations to nations, generations to generations, etc.

Americans are heavily indebted and the US economy is undergoing stress for you and I to position ourselves for an impending wealth transfer. Many blue chips company will continue to collapse as the recession persists and the average Americans will not be able to buy these companies at such low prices. The world will naturally expect that this economy will not be able to come back but that is a opportunity for Africans to own America from Africa. When most blue chips turns into penny stock, that is time for you to act.

So why not learn the ropes now.

This Pcet thing does not look real. First be corrected that Bear was never the biggest investment bank in the US, it was the 5th.

I do not think that you understand enough of the nitty gritties involved in option and futures trading. How much of the Blackscholes model do you know or understand.

You talked about margin trading without talking about the risk involved and the need for collaterals.

I do hope that people are not trying to bring in 419 into capital market activities. This is not good for the growth of the market and the Nigerian Economy.

threecrown, you are absolutely awesome. your information is a dynamite.

you talked about real time online stock dealing. i'm yet to find stockbroker in nigeria that do this. do you know any? at least i would be able to open an account with them online.

come to think of it, to open online account, i would need to scan and browse my signature and it would be different from the signature i bought my shares with from PO.

do i compulsorily need to be in nigeria to have these signature thing sorted out?

Dear Mr. Ade,
You do not need real-time online now. What I would advise is that you open a UBA NON residence Nigeria bank account or look for a means of opening a current account with any of the Nigerian bank (It could be online). Then proceed to open a stock broking acct with one of the following leadcapitalng.com, meristemng.com, fsdhsecurities.com etc. You should be able to place bid or trade through these companies. You will have access to your statement of acct and newsletters etc. There are so many you can do without visiting Nigeria. The most important thing is to open a current acct with a Nigeria Bank which I believe you can do online.
