The coys needs to start a war on piracy especially in the east. If you as the author don't fight for your book, the company doesn't even care. I recal how our royalty jumped when my mum pushed the piracy war on my dads book. The major pirates were traced from Enugu to Onitsha, but along the line, the case died. But that put fear into distributors then.

Imagine the income leakage that will be reduced if the coy pushes this fight on all their books.

Don't you think that instead of trying to fight the pirates, they should change strategy by going into alliance with several primary schools, secondary schools and Polytechnics and Universities for direct supply of books. I normally buy my kids books directly from the school's bookshop because if during the course of the term, there is a change in the book, i can easily return such a book and get a replacement without extra cost but if i had bought such a book from a bookshop, the seller will insist on me paying additional amount for replacement.

Even if they supply to schools at coy prices, students will always go and buy at cheaper prices (pirated copies) from the market , if they are available. That was exactly how we knew the books were pirated. Mum had to send my sis to the market to buy. Those shops were the starting point of the investigation.
The cabals started threatening my mum when the case got to some extent.

Gbam, you are a correct man In the UPN free education programme, the agreement with publishers for direct supply thru designated commission agents/booksellers cut off pirated books from the public schools in the then LOOBO states of the second republic.

There is a simple solution to that. In the Private schools, notebooks brought from outside cannot be used in the school because the schools tells the publishers to brand the notebooks with their school logo and it is always stated only notebooks branded in the school logo can be used in the school. Such an arrangement can be extended to books as well. It might not totally solve the problem but it is a starting point.
