Default Best resources for financial information

Lets all weigh in on which websites we think have the most useful and up-to-date financial information. My top picks would be:

1. www.cashcraft.com : They have the best graphs that I've seen so far, the draw back is that they don't contain volume info.

2. www.expresson-line.com : They'll send u a daily price list via email. Usually comes around 3-3:30pm every day.

3. www.nigerianstockexchange.com : Contains a wealth of information a lot of which is only available to subscribers. I've tried to subscribe several times unsuccessfully.

4. www.vetiva.com: Provides daily and weekly top 10 gainers and losers by both absolute value and %.

5. www.businessdayonline.com :

6. www.proshare.com : Many of their stories are culled from other sites but they're daily market report is the most analytical I've seen.

7. www.nigeriaworld.com/news/business : Provides links to the major business stories of the day from most of the major newspapers. The site gets updated every afternoon except on weekends.

These are some of the sites that I know of. Does anyone know of any others? Kindly share.

Hi,

I actually added most of the ones here on another thread yesterday.

Two more which I can add

http://www.firstglobalselect.com/scr...vcountry-id=55.. it is update about4 5pm GMT with latest price movements , historical graph, volume etc.

http://www.fsdhsecurities.com/ Good market report. You need to register

BTW, you said you hace been having trouble registering with the NSE,

This are the steps to follow.

A: Register on thier webiste -- nothing happens and it keeps telling you not on db. In actual fact it is there but not activated

B: Get some one to pay the 18K at

The Nigerian stock exchange
A/c no 2442030000255
First bank of Nigeria plc
Stock exchange house branch lagos

Or
The Nigerian stock exchange
A/c no 2111212310
Sterling bank
Broad street Lagos

C: Get the teller scanned to you, If you then send the scanned copy to the lady whose name or email is on the website, you will be setup in minutes and you get an email confirmation. I must add I went there myself in March when I was in Nigeria but she assured me that the scanned teller will suffice.

Unfortunately the website goes down like a yo-yo and it is down now so I could not get the email address. Hopefully this should help

Allanbow,
It took me uncountble hours of surfing and reading to discover these sites which are no doubt the best there are. You have done beginners a lot of good! www.ibtc.com and www.zenithsecurities.com are also good.

Dotunk, my man

I am just an ordinary investor like any other person. Started since 1999 but not very serious.

I woke up one morning this year in February and thought to my self how did I miss out on all the bounty last year (IPOs and PPs) and then decided to be a bit more focussed and do a bit of research. see my simple philosophy is "what is worth doing at all is worth doing very well". My target is to have a billion naira on the stock market one day you see that is an ambition of tall order.

So i think with the help of the gurus on this forum it is achievable.

BTW , I am an IT guy so i don't work for NSE.

On the issue of NSE fee, personally I think it may not be too bad, You see it depends on the analysis you are after, I can recollect reading some where on this forum an analysis by stockbearer where he talked about intra day movenments and how that gives you insight to short term stategies. This kind of information I can only get from the NSE site. Maybe it is available esle where I don't know.

Again, the news about bonuses, Dividends for some companies are hard to get and I get them here so all in all I still think it is work my money. But maybe some of the gurus on board can tell us where we can have access to this info. eg that of ETI I only got from the NSE

alanbow: have you used the NSE service for which a fee of N18K is required? Do you have any information from anyone who may have used the service? Your post appears to imply that one could obtain hourly data by subscribing to the NSE website; is that the case? And, you're right, Stockbear did mention sth in a comment about this. As of now, I don't know any of the stockbroking firms that provide data other than opening and closing prices and volumes (the CSCS site adds the extra of "average price").

Hi Avocado,

Yes, i use the service. I started my subscription in March.

As you are aware the trading session is b/w 10am and 1 pm and during this time you can see as prices changes through thier summary reports. See some shots attached. you can also access the final reports anytime afterwards

alanbow, thanks for the screenshots.

(1) The attachments show the position at the end of the day, is that right?
(2) The summary reports, how often are they given? Hourly? Bi-hourly? Or ...?
(3) What do they summarise? I mean: do they give numbers like average price for deals executed in the last time period (hour), say? And/or average volumes executed? Or do they provide price, and volume and time for each deal executed?

Everything (time, recall, etc etc) used in answering these questions is appreciated. And, it's kind of you to share.

.

Hi Avocado,

I have tried to answer the questions as much as I can.....

The attachments show the end of trade as I just took them tonight; however they constantly change when NSE is in session.

Let me start with the second screenshot which is the Today’s report. It is constantly updated during the trading day. If you continue to refresh the screen, you will see how the intra day prices are moving up and down. It will also show how many trades have been done at the time with the volume and price.

The beauty of this report is that you can run the report for any day in the past even for the same time last year or two year ago (Goes back to year 2000)

The first report (Daily summary) is very similar but shows a snapshot of the trades at a point in time. And it is only for the current day. It also does not show the intra day price

The Summary:

As you will aware the prices changes constantly during the day as demand and supply come into play so the trades is just a number of the total trades in the day, the price shown will be the last price when the snapshot was taken and the volume is the total volume sold. But the total value is the summation of the each trade multiplied by the price at which the trade was done.

Hi All,

Came across this website below which gives a good guide to trading. Although some are focussed on the South African market, I think it has done justice to technical analysis.

Enjoy........

I believe moneywise will not like to change names without informing their subscribers, moreso as they are trying to popularise their newspapers, so proshare seems to me as a seperate site.
