hi bayo, investment for beginners is simple. first of all, you should decide if you are going to be a long-term or short-term investor. This will help you determine the kinds of stocks to pick. Also the amount of money you have to invest will also aid in chosing stocks. In the stockmkarket, you have sectors such as banking, building materials, insurance, agriculture, comglomerates, construction, breweries, food and beverages and so on. You can choose from all these. so the choice is uon to you but if you insist, choose from a sector you are a bit conversant with.

Good morning to you friends,
Can anyone please tell me something about investing in agriculture? I have never taken time to think about the sector for once. I feel investing in agriculture can not yeild much return like insurance and banking sector, the reason being that the government of this country doesn't seem to believe in the prospect. However I will welcome any opinion on agriculture provided anyone has tried it and it has worked for him/her. Thanks . |

Longus,
Let me welcome you to our fold. I am sure you will benefit immensely from this forum. With regards to transfer of shares from Father to son, my experience is that if it is from a late father to a living son as inheritance, you will go through the probate registry and will forfeit up to 35% (as of 1997!) of the value of the shares. It is a long process and then after that with a letter of authority, you will send the certificates to the various registrars who will, in their own time type an adjustment of the certificate on it and then send it back to you! If you have to work with several registrars, you can imagine what that involves with the level of efficiency in the system in 9ja. If father is living and able, my advice will be for both parties to register with the same stockbroker and then use their broker to transfer the shares. They know these registrars and have their ways around these things. That is what I would advice, but I am sure other forum members may have other suggestions.

Hello All,
Trying to transfer shares from one brokerage house account to another and I'm hearing that I cant do it on a stock by stock basis. i.e it has to be all my positions or nothing? This doesnt make any sense to me so if anyone has any input on this, I would really appreciate it. Thanks |
