pps, i wonder y pple are clamouring that the kd and ph refineries should not be sold, for all the years that those things hv been there, they hv been useless.we hv serious issues in this country. what is daukoru n kupolokun saying about this?do those guys know anything about energy policies. left to me, i think pp should be attacking htem now cos they are at the forefront of nything bout oil in this country and they seem to be dead on these issues. i belive those boys should buy those refinries and turn them around

i was very optimistic when Yar Adua became president but after the reversal of the cale of the refinery, my optimism levels dropped some points
i know that if it were OBJ in place, nothing wey pple want shout. Infact you go shout, drink water, shout again and he won't reverse the sale of those refineries. (it's not that i like OBJ, but this is where his bad aspect would have actually done us good) it was disheartning to see pple clamouring for the reversal of the sale of those refineries due to personal/ tribalistic issues and none of them were looking at the whole picture and what we stand to gain if those refineries actually start working. to crown it all, Kupolokun had the guts to say that they could make those refineries work in 1 year. I think that is the greatest insult i have received as a nigerian in my life. anywayz, it's no use crying over spilt milk (ah! but that guy said he will list those refineries on the exchange - another money spinner for me!) |

There is this example I always give people if I want to illustrate for them what government should be doing if they are really serious about turning things around in this country, I always tell people to look at this country as you would look at your own business.
If any of us here has ever tried transport business, let’s use this example, you painstakingly raise money from everywhere, and you go out and buy around ten buses and plan to float a transport line. Then the buses start to operate and after three months you face this unfortunate situation; Three buses are running smoothly and returning everyday to give you their daily earnings, no problems. The other seven buses are having serious problems and are putting you through a lot of stress, its either the a bus hit a pedestrian and ended up in the hospital, or the police are detaining another bus for any offence , or the other bus is parked at the road safety office awaiting prosecution. All efforts to solve the problems were tried and they all failed, bad drivers, bad roads, wicked officials etc. You will only be spending all the money you earn in the first three buses to solve the problem created by the other seven, and at the end of the day you will have nothing left, you will end up in debt. Supposing someone came along and offered to buy up your problematic seven buses for less money than you bought them, what do you say? Will you sell? Or will you say no, for the sake of pride and ego and hang on for more losses. Back to reality, should Nigeria sell our refineries to Nigerians or do we hang on expecting a miracle that failed to happen since fifteen years ago? This is pure business; we need to have this mindset in the government houses. Respond, cause your brethren are suffering all over the nation.

When the day comes that we have duly elected officials and not selections then we can go on to hope that these elected officials will work for the people and for the greater good.
People that come in through the back door will always have their own agendas! The very fact that they stole their way in is sufficient reason not to expect much from them. But then again, anything is possible. Even pigs can fly! |

You see, my problem is with Yar adua and not the people that were clamouring for the reversal of the sale.
I say this because there are a lot of examples to show where a leader has to put his foot down irrespective of what pple say (as long as you are "Absolutely Sure - if i must borrow the Dettol payoff line" that you are making the right decision) When soludo came out with the recapitalization stunt, people shouted, wailed and predicted doomsday for Nigeria. Even Atedo Peterside whem i respect so much follow shout, but in the end OBJ stood his ground and now we are all singing soludo's praise. I felt he should have sorted out the Labour aspect of it which is making sure that those that lose their jobs from the sale of the refinery are adequately compensated. Rather, he decided to paly politics with it but acceding to the request of some unenlightened nigerians. Afterall, Dangote promised he will list those refineries on the Exchange by Q1 2008 thereby giving everyone an opportunity to share in the "National cake" abi no be so!!! In summary, this particular issue had nothing to do with political selection and all that. I think it's just one not setting his priorities right Personal opinion |

They can be revalued and bluestar asked to pay the right price. As for NNPC claiming to turn around the refinaries over in 1 year, I don't blame them, they are just clamouring to still have avenue to siphon more Nigeria money. It is normal for every greedy people to try to protect their way of corruption. |

@Yusuf, I was even saying that the refineries should be sold even if for twenty naira!
The most important thing here is that we stop running losses and start using oil monies to improve our national infrastructure, instead of feeding those fat cats at NNPC, refineries etc. When the refineries start to function under Bluestar, people will still be employed on merit and we can stop exporting oil, and re importing it into the country. The more we wait, the more these ppl that cried blue murder over the sale will be feasting on on our collective heritage. We are helplessly watching.

@ c kenneths, I totally agree with you.
you guys should just mark my words. In the end when they finally privatise those refineries (assuming it's not sold to Bluestar), it will be sold cheaper than the price Dangote paid for it. We never learn in this country. damn!!! |

Meanwhile, for those that bought the IGI private placement, i met someone that works with IGI and she says they will start despatching the certificates from September ending. although i personally don't believe her because she had told me something similar earlier.

hey guys,
good news. just read in Business day newspaper today that the Dangote flour public offer opens sept 3. It states clearly that it is an offer for sale and not a PP as earlier reported by proshare. if you want to read more, get business day page 14 |
