Default What Kind Of Expectation Someone Can Expect In The Market Of Nowaday

You guy that are very expert in this stocks business, I like to ask what did you think averagely someone can make on investment with stocks especially when the go is good 30,40 0R 70%; I’m talking about long time investment let say 18-24 months. What I was trying to get from all these is that if it worth it to borrow money to do these kind of business. Though I have not borrow any money but I like to expand my portfolio. I believe others like me that is new in this area of business will gain a lot from your knowledge.

Uncertainity is the name of this game, nobody can say with any level of authority that the stock market will average any percentage gain or loss in any time frame.

Watching the market and taking several decisions from everyday occurence is a sure way of winning in the stock market.

In a thread about loans, I was criticising the possibilty of winning with borrowed funds. And I said that it will take nearly a miracle to succeed in the market with borrowed funds.

In this bear session, borrowers will be worse off than others.

If you know nothing, or are new to investing, STAY AWAY from borrowing money. A word is enough for the wise.

Due to the bull run in the market, most people seem to think that the market will forever go up. People have short term memories; the market was down for 3 consuctive years in the late nineties (1997 by 8%, 1998 by 12% and 1999 by 8%). The only thing most people remeber is that it was up by 100% last year and about 47% this year.

My brother that's how you know the newcomers!!!!

However, even in a BEAR market, you can still make profit.

ITS true that no one can say what will happen in the market, but the market is super bearish now, no need to make a calculated risk, expert are already projecting first quater of 2008 as harvest period, so the verdict is that this is the time to invest, it can be a big shock to receive seeing your investment going down daily, but invest more look for another seven month, i have close my mind on profit taking this year, i want to reshuffle and prepare for next year, then also participate in the public offers, thats my resolution, am no longer affected by the bears!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Default what of the public offers

@ olusolakemmy, if the experts predict that the market will become bullish next year, then it may mean that we will see less PO's that erode the secondary market of needed liquidity.

I also think profit is possible in a down market but the strategy for that is not the same one for every day trades in an up market.

Let me share with you this rule of thumb. Anyone could make 30, 40 or even 70% BUT the same person can also lose 30, 40 or 70%.
Think of this very seriously if you are considering a loan for stock trading. Ensure you take care of the possible worst scenario. What happens if you lose? Can you still take care of business? Losing is a very real possiblity. In the case of borrowing, you have to even gain beyond a particular level, say 20% over the period of 1 year at least to make a profit depending on the interest rate of your loan. If you cannot pay back your loan without making gains from your stocktrading, my advice is to avoid loans completely.
A positive example is that if you make 5% net gain in 10 trades and 5% net loss in 2 trades over a period of 1 year you still make a net gain of 40% for the year (brokerage fees already factored in). After factoring in your interest rate of say 15%, you can smile away with a 25% net gain. Just remember that the reverse is also possible in which case you end up with a loss of 40+15 = 55% loss. That said, a very good trader should be able to make more gain than losses.
I'm not trying to be a prophet of doom but as you know some are very adept when it comes to stock trading and such experienced traders and the market mechanics can make things very difficult for the novice. So beware.

c.kenneth, i think all the public offers are coming up this year, No news yet of any offer for next year, so i expect people to have recover from their various investment, also december is usaly bearish which means lot of people will be trading their shares for cash, that can also depress the market, then usualy follow up with an acute rise in prices by the 1st quarter.
i think i support the school of though that says the next real period for profit taking is feb, march, april!!!!!!!!!!!

Supposing, just supposing every other investor will want to take advantage of december low price an buy then and sell in march, april.

What will happen in that scenario cause any secret that becomes public knowledge is no longer safe to operate with.
