From the story, the bond issue is not likely to cause a dilution but it will increase the fixed costs of the company as they will have to service the interests before any earnings accrue to shareholders.

Hopefully they will be able to deploy the funds well and grow the top-line; that will end up increasing shareholders' value.

Better in terms of what? Not quite sure since we can look at the companies/stocks from different perspectives.

e.g.
Company - growth, earnings, brand, market share etc
Stock - Capital appreciation
Returns - Dividend yield, possibility of bonus...
Valuation - EPS, PE...
Horizon - Short, medium or long term?

Fidson Healthcare did recently pay out a higher dividend yield than MayBaker; but MB have a more reliable track record in dividend payments having been around much longer. Both have strong management teams in place and both are investing heavily in technology and infrastructure for long term returns. It depends on one's preference. ( I own both).

There is a business risk here with Fidson. Reduction in turnover accompanied by improvements in PAT is not sustainable. Let's see what 3Q is going to be like. I know people are still having malaria and typhoid cases have not reduced, I guess the company has cut prices...

Oga KOD, there seems to be some mix up. The N255m was posted as Q2 31-Dec-09. Then there is a FY ended 30-Jun-10 forecast of PAT of N561.60m. And then there is a Q1 March 2010 PAT of N370m. May be the Q1 March 2010 is actually Q3?

In that case then you are right. The PE for Fidson is about 8.0. Members should please note.

Very very bad influence but it makes sense considering the fact that it seems to be the only viable alternative in the healthcare sector apart from May and baker, which is more expensive and less liquid.
