On the contrary, the GSM operator may be packing there bags gradually as their profits kept heading south year-on-year since 2010. Within the same period, a good number of nigerian investors has significantly reduced their stake giving room for NCC's might, as shown in the recent charges slammed due to poor network quality. I personally think that this government is not doing enough to keep these guys in business.
Power generation alone contributes to more that 75% of every operator's OPEX. For instance a 2000kva generator in a switching center consumes about 400ltrs of diesel per hour, while a 27kva generator in bts site consume about 100ltrs of diesel per day. Note that these operators nigeria have more than 25 switching centers and about 13000 bts sites. Maintenance cost of those is a story for another day.
