I can confirm the that close price of Capital Oil as N2.42 as at friday 30/11, source Cashcraft Asset Management Limited - A member of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (I have tested their prices against NSE prices, when their page is functional, and they check back).
Interesting that you are interested in CApital Oil, Gbike, the question is why? I can imagine part of your interest is that it has been setting record high on a daily basis since september. This usually bodes well for a buy trade. U simply need to keep in mind how much you are willing to lose should the trend reverse. Technically this looks like a good trade, but I have no fundamental to dwell on e.g. why the sudden rise! Does this company operate upstream? If so maybe its the fact crude has been on an upward trend, moving fast towards the $100 mark! I don't know, do you? The liquidity risk is certainly an issue, no point buying if there would be nobody to sell to! So who is doing the buying that has been driving the price up? Perhaps, its a share buyback, who knows? Either way I would buy, liquidity risk is negligible if I am buying with the trend, if this price continues rising, the people driving the price up at the moment, would be buying my stock should I choose to sell. I do not believe you can move this market Gbike, and this is not a shot at your net worth! |

Concerning why the stock has been moving north, the coy has been pumping money into expansion, building terminal in Apapa, building more stations in the east. By the way they operate in the down stream sector. CAPITAL OIL & GAS IND LTD |

I have been reading about capital oil revamping since they were 4.5kobo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i tried to buy volume since then, my broker could not get me one unit! i open with another broker to get me the coy, but no, its not always available its kind of scars anyway but am sure it will drop price at some point to allow us enter. |

I do not get that, prices are dependent on trading, someone is obviously buying and the other selling (why would one buyer be preferred over the other), thats why the price is moving. Is the stock quoted electronically or does it have market makers?

this situation can be cause by many sources, and some scarcity are not really genuine, it might be diffiicult to identify a true scars stock, but the truth is it can be so severe that you might not be able to buy, infact your broker will tell from the word go that you should order for another company that the one you asked for is scars and yet you will be seeing that same company been traded every day on the floor. |

I also know for a fact that some institutional investors can make a stock do 5% rise daily for a while till they are ready to sell. They create artificial scarcity. Imagine a stock with average volume turnover of around 5M shares daily. An order is now placed for 50M units by an investor or consortium of investors. The stock will just start the 5% rise a day dance since there is no supply to meet the demand.

the only set back some one mentioned at a time during this discussion is that the coy is own by a family in which the father, mother and sons are the directors!! well, i didnt see anything wrong in that as far as they keep to the regulation of owning a public company |

"the Managing Director of Capital Oil and Gas Industries Limited, Ifeanyi Uba, said the company is not listed on the NSE and is therefore not being probed by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for share price manipulation.
Speaking to journalists in Lagos, Uba said that the clarification became necessary following several telephone calls and enquiries by members of the public who want to buy the shares of Capital Oil Plc. Capital Oil Plc is a public company listed in the second tier of the NSE. Although the company has been inactive for many years." link to the write up in bussinessday http://www.businessdayonline.com/investor/4909.htmly I wonder how Mr Uba claiming no knowledge and association with Capital Oil PLC knew the company has been inactive for many years. Capital Oil and Gas Industries Limited and Capital Oil PLC are seperate companies see below link if you are interested.
Proshare News Chief Executive Officer of Capital Oil and Gas Industries Limited, Mr Ifeanyi Uba decried the misconception trailing the identity of the two companies. He stated that most investors are not aware of the fact that Capital Oil and Gas Industries and Capital Oil Plc are two separate companies, owned by different people who have no connection whatsoever........................... Investigation showed that Capital Oil has been technically out of business for sometime because its two operational filling stations had been out of service for about five to 10 years........................... Reacting to the issue of price manipulation, Eng. Ayo Fanimokun, managing director/chief executive officer of Capital Oil said he is not a stockbroker and has not gone out to ask people to buy the shares of company, adding that SEC has yet to notify them about the investigation of share price movement.... |
