Yes the offer looks competitively priced at N1.7 for a N1 share. The forward PE is 4.45 which is much better than Golden Securities at 15.1. In addition, unlike Golden Securities, they have met the N1 billion new capital requirement for Stockbroking firms. Golden Securities have not met this requirement. Valueline is definetely better than Golden Securities.

My candid question and I wish someone with contacts can find out is:

Are these firms (stockbroking firms restructuring operations to whatever) going to scale the regulatory hurdle of listing?

What happens if SEC says No!, are you ready to stick with the firms.

We should remember that some of them will have illiquid shares which will affect its valuation.

Solainvest, i share your concern, we need to be careful. Personally i will prefer to invest in stockbrocking firms with wider ownership structure, especially where institutional investors have significant stake. I hope no one on this forum gets their fingers burnt. There will be winners and loosers in the end.

Friends,
We should be careful about all the good talk about the value line pp. Remember they made their pp presentation without any regulatory vetting of the information contained therein. If a company doing pp is honest about it's financial position, members would write off such coy. But when a coy cooks up fantastic figures, anaylsty begin to talk and make comparisms and talk about the "prospect" of the stock upon listing.
The bottomline is that whatever picture the companies doing pp are painting we all are taking risks putting our money therein.
Best wishes.

I agree we need to be careful. However, a stockbroking firm is registered and regulated by SEC. I believe it will be difficult for a stockbroking firm to take investors money and disappear.

Based on the accounts, Valueline claims to have the N1billion required to continue operation even without additional capital. They are therefore of lower risk compared to Golden securities which has just N70 million Capital.

All the same a PP is of higher risk than a PO hence obviously the higher returns expected.

I have money stuck in Globe Re so i know the need to excercise caution. But i wont be scared away as no invetsment is completely without risk.

Zainabusman it's not about the company running away. It's about the coy not meeting investors expectation based on the figures they put out while asking for funds.

Zain
The data looks good.
Also looking at their web page I can see they have a fairly spread of offices can cuts accross about 6 states. Not many of the so called big brokers spread to the people as much as valueline. On the basis that they have a spread of offices I am inclined to invest. Though this info on their office locations is not in the PP document which was poorly written. However I think the offer closes today, and I am not in the mood to fill any form at the moment.

Valueline has nine branches; their new head office complex on 4aa Force Ave seem a nice one; experienced management; high turnover.

I think u guys should grab a copy of the FULL TEXT prospectus, maybe u'll change ur minds.

If u can grab the big ones i.e BGL, Meristem, Vetiva, Apt, Dominion, Greenwich etc, grab this!

I say YEA!!!!!!!!!

THE ONLY EXTENSION I AM AWARE OF IS UNTIL 2nd APRIL 2008. I BELIEVE THIS PLACEMENT IS NOT FOR EVERYONE BUT FOR THE STRONG AT HEART. THE ONLY THING THAT ATRRACTED MY MONEY FROM MY POCKET IS THE PAR VALUE #1 AND THE PROPOSED LISTING PRICE #5 (I HOPE THEY CAN DEFEND THIS PRICE BEFORE NSE QUOTATION COMMITTE). GOOD LUCK TO THOSE THAT TOOK PART.
