But if they are going to list at say N1.50k is it not better to have 100000 units at N1.50 than 50000 units at N1.50?

The share split becomes important when the listing price is determined. Otherwise as you pointed out it is the exact same thing.

That is why I say the lisiting price is important.

I see your point, but shouldn't the listing price reflect the split?

In theory yes. But in practise it doesn't always in Nigeria. That is why people were rushing pp's up until a year ago. Because shares were split and still listed at high rates. Those days have gone.

An example would be Aso Savings. The pp was N1 (par) for a N1 share. The share were split (50k) and still listed at N3.50 p/share

In such scenarios, the share split is an added bonus.

I spoke with the company secretary in July this year. she sent me a summary of the ATM with held in April this year.
Lagos government pumped a billion naira into the company so that it can meet the regulatory requirements. the company plans to hold another ATM before the year ends to consider listing on the nasd OTC market.
shareholders are in for some profit taking finally.
