I've been monitoring this forum for a while from the US and I'm impressed. I finally decided to go ahead and join, and I found the post in Nigerian Stock Market Tips about a suspension of activity! I hope this forum is in for the long haul. Since regular members may not even be looking there now, I've re-submitted the thread in this forum, since it is more in line with my direct interests.
I had hoped for some direction from members regarding legitimate brokers and advisors, since I had wanted to pursue possible relationships. I am a US citizen, and frankly, if my peers knew the direction I'm taking here, they'd shun me and probably want to have me committed to an asylum. The thing is, I respect what you're trying to do. Regardless of the fact that an undesirable element has hijacked a portion of your marketplace, in turn casting a specter of distrust on virtually all financial dealings with Nigeria in "traditional" US business circles, I believe you deserve recognition and inclusion. Bad news is always deemed more newsworthy than good news. Just how viable is the concept of placing a significant Nigerian-based investment in a US business proposal? |

Hi newseeker,
well i cant exactly say i get ur drift cos i reside in naija. But man, to be frank as an investor u weigh the risk n determine if u'v got wat it takes to go into d market. the fact is that in as much as there are efforts to sell the NSE no one will come on their knees beggin u 2 invest... afterall u'd be the one getting the returns. Havin said that, i believe this forum is abt leveragin on our network to tap into opportunities offered in the market and not advocacy for a set of securities. |

Sorry about the cross-posting-
I apparently was unclear about my interest and the nature of my question. What I was asking is this: while I'm sure the Nigerian government is far more interested in capital coming in, to what extent do the "big" players in Nigeria venture out of country with their investing? Obviously, the internet and online trading has made us a global community at least in THAT way--and then, when you go "offshore", do you go predominantly to tax havens, or simply in pursuit of "the deal"--whatever it is, wherever it is? And how many big players are there in Nigeria anyway, more or less? Are any private citizens dominant forces? My new friends, I'm seeking education here. Presumably I could invest in the NSE with due diligence and common sense. But what about money coming out of Nigeria by private citizens investing elsewhere? What are they doing? |
