What's the housing situation in your area?

Here in Abuja it's crazy, Landlords wake up one morning and just increases rent. You either take it or leave it.

Should there be a proper law that regulates housing conditions and rents?

I have studied the Abuja rental market very well and I can assure you that it is not the fault of the landlords. They are generally egged on by the real estate agents. They are the ones driving the prices up through the roof and the reason many houses are empty and will remain empty.

If you replace OBJ with politicians and senior civil servants your statement would still be true. Its either they acquired those properties when they had 'too much money' or they were given to them given as kickbacks, either way, they're not under any pressure to let or lease these properties.
Of course there is a solution: Fight Corruption and rent will nose nosedive in Abuja.
