COMPLIANCE WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA FOREIGN ACCOUNT TAX COMPLIANCE ACT.

Please did anyone get a mail with the above heading.

A stockbroker is asking the nigerian people to fill a foreign form(United States) about tax compliance in the US. Is this meant for United States citizen or for even Nigerians?

Is this normal?

It is for these category of Nigerians:

1. You have permanent residency/Green Card
2. You are a citizen of the US
3. You have a bank account domiciled in the US
4. You have a US telephone number

You see, I use your your platform regularly, and there are a couple of technical issues that Morgan should kindly address to encourage clients. Employees at Morgan are meant to be able to override your systems and reset login issues, because these things have caused me to lose huge monies on two occasions now. I call your employees regularly, (Mora**, Julc** etc), and it is unfair, how they have to wince and admit impotene in the face of technical issues from your end such as login issues.

Yes..that is how it is done.

When you buy shares on the floor of the exchange, you are supposed to fill this form in question as a transferee (recipient of shares). The same form ought to be sent to the registrars for update of signatures. If this was done at the time the shares were bought, you will already have your signature in the registrar's database and as such, the signature on your e-dividend mandate can be verified without hassles.

However, since we operate a very inefficient system/society, this part of the process is neglected and the consequence is that the registrar does not have a signature to compare the one on your e-dividend mandate form against. They will then ask you to get a banker's confirmation, which is more expensive but faster route as the transfer of shares form has to go through CSCS to the Registrar but the banker's confirmation goes to the Registrar directly.

Your apprehension is understandable. You think your broker can sell you stock using the stock signed stock transfer form. No. The truth is that most of the registrars would claim they do not have your specimen signature in their data base and as such can not process your e-dividend form. With signed transfer form dully processed at CSCS by your broker, your signature would be verified without hassles . Please note you only need to sign the transferee section as a buyer .
