Default Should we allow 'advertisement posts' in the Real Estate Forum?

A few SMN forum members have expressed their dislike of advertisement posts in the Nigerian Real Estate forum.

However, currently, our forum rules allow people to make advertisement posts in the Nigerian Real Estate forum .

We would like to get members views on this : Should we disallow advertisement posts in this forum?

The risk u run by allowing advertisements is a damage to ur reputation or even a law suit if things go wrong. Imagine if someone pays for a property based on an advert on ur site and the person gets swindled? Even if u have a disclaimer, u will still be blamed if things go wrong.

If people want to advertise for real estate on ur site, let them pay for it. This may discourage some 419 people from advertising which is a good thing.

If we choose to allow Advertisments, I suggest we create a thread for it, that way when we are looking for offerings we can search for them there. We can then use the usual threads for discussions on such Investment and the normal investment advice.

I agree with Micheal on this.
I think it adverts should be allowed, but in a seperate thread.
With a disclaimer.

EIC,

allowing threads for advertisements have seldom been good for discussion boards. The overall effect has usually been to bring down the value on boards where they're allowed. The adverts in the links in your post are a ready example. Something always comes up; there're examples walking the fine line; a good site wants to avoid such issues.

Accepting payments for adverts in threads is a practice fraught with treacherous ditches; you'd need to think this one through long and hard.

Adverts already show up on this site via google Ad(sense?) and targetted ads; clicks on the ads gets this site some change - agreed, it's nothing to live on, so the resources that go into making this site possible are appreciated.

It's been stringent adherence to rules with copyright materials; ads in threads brings that all down.

Thanks all.

In the light of this, we will not only stop ad posts in the 'Nigerian Real Estate' and 'Foreign Real Estate Investment' forums, but also shut them down permanently as well.

If you have any objections about this, please send me a private message as you can.

Thanks again.

On further considerations, we will leave the forums open, but no "advertisement posts" will be allowed. Any advertisement posts will be deleted by the moderators.
